Showcasing Innovation for Safer Roads and Events Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting one-on-one innovation presentations at our Nuneaton Depot. This exciting event brought together key stakeholders from the region’s largest infrastructure projects, their supply chains, and police forces across the Midlands to explore ground-breaking safety technologies. A special thank you to HRS for partnering with us to demonstrate cutting-edge solutions like proximity alarms, geofencing, and CCTV systems. These technologies play a critical role in enhancing safety at highway and utility maintenance sites, as well as at events, by: ✅ Alerting workers during incursions so they can move to safety swiftly ✅ Capturing evidence to support authorities in prosecuting offenders While responding to risks is crucial, prevention remains Core Highways’ top priority. That’s why we were thrilled to showcase our innovative BAAVA barrier to attendees, including Midlands police forces. The BAAVA barrier offers an unparalleled level of protection by physically closing roads at maintenance sites and events. With its ability to stop a van travelling at 30mph within just 5 metres, it’s the shortest stopping distance in its class. Compact and perfect for urban environments, this solution can: 🔹 Reduce reliance on HGV blocking vehicles at events 🔹 Cut costs, staffing levels, and asset usage 🔹 Lower the carbon footprint for major events The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees excited about how the BAAVA barrier can transform safety and efficiency across their projects. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we’re looking forward to advancing these solutions together and making a real difference in safety on the ground. #Innovation #RoadSafety #Sustainability #CoreHighways #Collaboration #StrongerTogether

  • Recently, members of the Milestone Infrastructure Civils Projects and Hampshire TMC team organised a fantastic #STEM Day at The Crescent Primary School in Eastleigh that we were immensely proud to be a part of. The day was filled with engaging, hands-on activities including bridge-building exercises, site setup demonstrations, road safety lessons, and even a surprise visit from a gritter lorry and a traffic management lorry. It really was an exciting day for the teams involved and the children at the school too. We are not sure who enjoyed it more! Sean Murphy, Regional Director of Milestone Infrastructure shared his pride in the team’s efforts, saying, “I am incredibly proud of our team at Milestone Infrastructure for their dedication and enthusiasm in delivering such an impactful STEM Day. Thank you to the supply chain and volunteers—your time and expertise gave the pupils valuable insights into future career opportunities, inspiring the next generation of civil engineers.” Core Highways are delighted to have contributed to this meaningful initiative, helping to spark curiosity about careers in civil engineering by demonstrating the exciting prospects in the Temporary Traffic Management sector. The children also got to understand the importance of safety for everyone around and working in roadworks. Simon White, Managing Director of Major Projects and Nationals accounts said ”Our Core Highways team thoroughly enjoyed supporting our key client Milestone Infrastructure in this brilliant initiative to raise the profile of our sector and the vital work our country’s roadworkers do” #StrongerTogether #Stem #Milestone #CrescentPrimarySchool

At last week's Highways Heroes awards in Central London we were delighted to celebrate 4 of our colleagues from two different depots. Lee Robinson - Chelmsford  Luke Scriven - Chelmsford Calvin Davis - Tewkesbury Tom Bailey-Green - Tewkesbury Whilst out performing their regular duties Lee & Luke were first on the scene of a tragically fatal Road Traffic Accident. They reacted immediately and took all necessary steps to avoid further incidents from occurring and provided assistance to those at the scene. Calvin and Tom were recognised for their actions when, on their way to the A417 Missing Link project, they noticed a young lady on the wrong side of an overbridge. They stopped and intervened, preventing her from taking her own life. Everybody at Core Highways would like to publicly thank these special colleagues for their selfless actions and we were delighted that members of our Senior Leadership Team were able to join them as the industry recognised their efforts. Congratulations guys and a heartfelt thank you to all those recognised on the night for their selfless acts, too. You are all a credit to your families, your companies and the wider highways sector.

  • Core Highways Introduces the Revolutionary BAAVA Barrier to the UK We’re thrilled to announce the first deployments of our brand-new BAAVA anti-incursion barrier on the UK network! Our inaugural deployment took place in London for Transport for London, as part of Costain Group PLC’s refurbishment of the A40 elevated section. Acting as the Traffic Management contractor, we ensured safe working zones during full road closures over key weekends. We also proudly supported the Rutland Remembrance Parade, providing anti-incursion protection that kept the procession safe while honouring this significant occasion. So, what makes the BAAVA barrier so innovative? Crash-Test Certified: Stops a 3.5-tonne vehicle traveling at 48 kph in just 5.5 meters. Modular Design: Adaptable for different road widths and real-time adjustments on-site. Secure & Accessible: Immovable by the public but easily converted into an access gate with a unique handle mechanism. This barrier is perfect for urban projects, road closures, and event safety, offering unmatched versatility and safety. Dan Raffles, Director of our Specialist Barriers Division, says it best: “BAAVA transforms how we approach safety. Its ability to adapt without compromising crash-test integrity is a game-changer. And the ease of turning it into an access gate adds unparalleled practicality.” Rutland County Council’s Head of Highways Andrew Tatt. FCIHT commented “After seeing the BAAVA barrier system at Highways UK, I was keen to trial it for Rutland’s remembrance parade as I could see the potential for anti-terrorist prevention as well as crowd and road worker protection at public events/temporary road closures for maintenance works. He continued “The way the units can be built up on site to cover a variety of road widths and be quickly manoeuvred at road closure points to let authorised vehicles through made the whole experience very impressive. The closing part of the deal was the crash test certification that the product has, it gave me the immediate piece of mind that it was safe.” Want to learn more about the BAAVA barrier?
