Core Highways is thrilled to contribute to National Highways for the SMP Alliance. As part of the National Emergency Area Retrofit (NEAR) programme, we have installed critical Vehicle Restraint System works in partnership with Balfour Beatty plc and Saferoad VRS UK Ltd. We have delivered 50 additional Emergency Refuge Areas (ERA) across southern England. This collaborative effort is enhancing safety and resilience on some of the country's busiest roads and provides safe, off carriageway, refuge for motorists.

Safety first and safety foremost where partnerships matter!
Melbourne's iconic Bolte Bridge was the site of a unique intersection of aviation and energy expertise, with the successful removal of four marker ball flashers on the Bridge’s overhead transmission power lines. The marker balls, each measuring one metre in diameter and weighing two to five kilograms, were originally installed in 1997 to aid Police Air Wing navigation. Due to their age, the marker balls – which were bolted to transmission lines over 27 years ago – were removed for the ongoing safety of motorists and the community. The recent operation saw us team up with our trusted delivery partner, Zinfra, with a linesworker in a specialist helicopter navigating the cityscape to remove the devices. This required careful handling given their size and high altitude, not to mention nerves of steel! 🚁💪 Thanks to Transurban and the Department of Transport and Planning for their support to make the operation a success. Below is a link to the fire service report on the #lutonairport #carpark #fire. Thanks to the Business Sprinkler Alliance for providing. There’s A LOT of information in it, but a few of the most pertinent points for me when I think about it about my day to day role: - Response time of the fire brigade and initial fire fighting: It’s great to read these reports and understand the process the FB go through to assess the situation, but ultimately it takes a long time to actually to determine what the response is (the number of times I’ve heard “it’s not sprinklered but the fire brigade are only 5 minutes away……”) - Water supplies: I’ve always thought carefully about what hydrants / water supplies are available and how a fire could be fought, but it becomes more and more obvious that water supplies in the UK are woefully inadequate for well developed fires (think even fires on light industrial commercial estates which lack reticulated supplies) - Sprinklers: Another example where sprinkler protection was not present. They were probably deemed “too expensive” when they built the car park which certainly looked to be a very lightweight “value engineered” structure and it’s likely they would have helped control the fire. Interested to see how sprinkler standards evolve for the protection of parking structures; more so when factoring in the presence / charging of electric vehicles. - Car Park Fires in general: whilst this wasn’t started by an ev it seems that we are seeing more and more of these. I’m trying to figure out is this just a perception (e.g due to social media reporting) or a reality - seem to see events in South East and Eastern Asia almost every week. #reinsurance #insurance #propertyinsurance #mga #underwriter #riskmanagement #riskengineering #carparkfire #lutonairportfire
Today marks one year since the London Luton Airport car park fire. Yesterday, the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) published a comprehensive report outlining the full extent of the incident and the operation in response from the service. The BSA agrees with the conclusion that sprinklers must be a key element in restricting these fires in car park environments. The countdown is on!! No, not til Christmas… but to the closure of the consultation on the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan. If you haven’t already, please do make sure you take 5 minutes out in this hectic festive period, register and respond to the consultation. (Policy 31 pertains to the airfield allocation- link in comments) Tell Rushcliffe Borough Council that the Airfield should NEVER have been in the Local Plan. Tell them that the aviation sector and key stakeholders were not consulted as they should have been, prior to even considering it for inclusion. Tell them that lives depend on the 24/7 landing capability offered by the site, for transfers to the East Midlands Trauma Hub at QMC. Tell them that the history of the airfield (including the scrapping of hundreds and hundreds of aircraft on site, with all the associated harmful waste that produces) was not presented for consideration prior to its inclusion. Tell them that specialist job, training and opportunities depend on this site, both here and across the country. And tell them: Homes can be built in many places, but Airfields cannot. #savenottinghamcityairfield #SustainablePlanning #aviationmatters #nottinghamcity #rushcliffe #broxtowe #Gedling #aviation #eVTOL #cVTOL #AAM

Planned growth executed with fiscal responsibility and accountability is good.
State Highway 361, commonly referred to as “The Island Road,” serves as the primary roadway connecting Mustang Island to the mainland. Acknowledging its strategic importance and the current issues of congestion and safety, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced that plans for the Highway 361 Mustang Island Project are moving forward.

This is what NTRO - National Transport Research Organisation is all about!! Our people have so much passion for what we do and helping the transport agencies to better understand the data, to enable them to make informed decisions about how to improve their transport network which ultimately will help our communities stay safe. #nationalroadsafetyweek #dataforimproveddecisions #NTRO #safety #data
A football stadium’s worth of people are seriously injured or killed on our roads every year. For National Road Safety Week, NTRO is taking some real action. We’re providing free access to our data-driven Road Safety Intelligence Toolkit (RSIT) to all local governments across Australia until June 30 so they can better understand the safety of their road networks. NTRO Chief Executive Officer Michael Caltabiano explains why we’re doing this, and a little about what RSIT can do for local government authorities and safer roads, in this video. Councils can access their free trial of NTRO’s Road Safety Intelligence Toolkit by filling in the form at this link https://lnkd.in/gKYzVXWt Australian Local Government Association SARAH Group (Founder: National Road Safety Week) #roadsafety #intelligence #data #innovation #NTRO #NRSW

When it comes to safety, Restricted Crossing U-Turns (RCUTs) drastically reduce the chances of collision. Located in Red Wing, Minnesota, Alliant designed this section of CR61 that includes two R-CUTs. Improving the safety of our roads is just one of the ways we build better communities. #Alliant #BuildingBetterCommunities #Transportation

" Before the implementation of a High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST), roadway departures accounted for 65% of all traffic-related fatalities, Since installing HFST yearly total crashes on curves have declined by 73% and on ramps by 78%"* HFST is a proven cost-effective road safety solution that increases traction and reduces braking distances and skidding risks. Learn more about HFST from Mark Archer in his latest article 👇 https://ow.ly/rAxW50UhF6V #HighFrictionSurfaceTreatment #SkidResistance #RoadwaySafety *American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA)
