  • Last month Creative Land Trust’s Head of Development, Gemma Dean, chaired ‘Making the Arts Investable’, a private roundtable discussion organised by PULSO and partners, Community Investment Management and Baldwin Wealth Partners, as a prelude to the to the #16thArtAndFinanceConference by Deloitte in Luxembourg. It was a great honour to be part of a discussion with over 30 key leaders from 16 countries, discussing the vital role impact investing and innovative finance can play in the financial sustainability of creative industries globally. Our conversations were enriched by working sessions led by world-renowned experts covering a range of topics, including Creative Economy Strategy, Leveraging Technology to Transform Funding, Building Investment Readiness, and the role of Real Estate in Future-proofing Creativity. Together, we fostered an engaging and forward-looking dialogue on supporting and sustaining creativity worldwide. A big thank you to PULSO for the opportunity and Laia Gasch, Director, World Cities Culture Forum for recommending Gemma, when she was unfortunately unable to travel. • The end of October saw The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves MP, unveil the 2024 Autumn Budget. This budget included a number of tax and spending measures that could affect the health of the arts in the UK and all of our access to culture. The Campaign for the Arts for the Arts outlines, what the 2024 Autumn Budget means for the arts. This comprehensive overview includes how inflation will impact the DCMS budget and local government funding, school funding, tax reliefs, and more. While the budget includes some ongoing support mechanisms, the arts community calls for more comprehensive financial backing and a strategic approach to prevent further declines in accessibility and innovation. Read more about these developments. https://lnkd.in/eabeymr2 and https://lnkd.in/e2yHf39e #CreativeIndustries #CreativeEconomy #CultureatRisk #ArtsForAll #CultureMatters

  • We're spotlighting the work of our Artist Ambassadors and Trustees. Trustee Daniel Silver is a London-based artist best known for his figurative sculptures. This winter, he appears at Frith Street Gallery with a new exhibition featuring work influenced by ancient art, modernism, and psychoanalytic theory. Figures in bronze and marble, evoke a sense of timelessness, engaging with themes of history—natural, geological, and human—as starting points for exploration. Sourced from a historic stone yard in Pietrasanta, Italy, Silver’s marble pieces remain largely untouched, preserving their unique surfaces marked by time. Daniel Silver joined as a Trustee, believing that artist studio space in the UK is less affordable and available. He said, "A studio or space to work in is one of the most basic requirements for an artist, it should be the norm and we need to work to make this happen." Uncanny Valley is showing at Frith Street Gallery Limited until the 18th Jan 2025. #KeepLondonCreative #ArtistVoices #CtreativeLandTrust #ArtistSpotlight https://lnkd.in/eeMAWS8n

  • What would Stratford look like if ‘people’ and ‘planet’ were at the heart of its regeneration policy? Creative Land Trust, Purcell Architects, Grow Studios, London Borough of Newham, Unit A (University of East London), and Studio 2 (Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London), are collaborating as part of a knowledge exchange programme, set up to explore the question; What Stratford would look like if ‘people’ and ‘planet’ were at the heart of its regeneration policy? Students explore the question by taking Stratford Civic Centre as a study area and engaging with Newham's ambitious vision to place ‘people’ and ‘planet’ at the heart of public policy in the regeneration of Stratford Town Centre. In October, the students had a walking tour of Hackney Wick (Grow Hackney) and Stratford (Alice Billing House), followed by a lecture at UEL by Purcell, LB Newham and Fernanda Palmieri to give the students more information about ABH in relation to the Civic Campus and Stratford more broadly. Students will spend the upcoming term developing designs for better uses of the South block yard and the adjacent municipal car park. Opportunities and conflicts arising from emerging creative uses and shifting demographics will become the starting point for the social-spatial investigation and for the development of transformative strategies and interventions that can foster urban and civic life and reimagine Stratford Civic Center as a place for local people, for new social situations and new ecologies. https://lnkd.in/emHH82a7 #CivicEngagement #RegenerationPolicy #KnowledgeExchange #CivicLife #CreativeLondon #CultureAtRisk

  • Two weeks ago, Operations Manager Yves Blais atternded the opening night of Matt Small's Soul to Soul Exhibition at The Verdean, part of an artist residency with J G Contemporary at Friary Park, in partnership with CreativeLandTrust, Mount Anvil, and Peabody The evening was pure joy, a celebration of incredible art, Matt White, created the perfect musical backdrop that allowed Small’s work to take center stage. Small's bold, compelling style, and canvases made of discarded objects like car bonnets or old signs, gave a voice to young, dispossessed people—individuals who feel undervalued and overlooked. The Verdean is becoming a vibrant art space thanks to JGC Director Jewel Goodby. Her and the team's work to deliver workshops and exhibitions has become the cornerstone of art and community engagement within Acton. The unit is open from Monday to Wednesday, 9 am to 5 pm, every week. Jewel has an open-door policy and welcomes residents and the local community to visit the space and see the artists’ process. #AffordabeArtSpace #AccesstoArt #KeepLondonCreative #CultureAtRisk #CommunityBuilding #CreativeLandTrust

Earlier in the year, LB of Newham welcomed Grow Studios, an affordable workspace and artist studio provider, into Alice Billing House, the former Stratford Firefighters’ accommodation, a listed building that remained empty for decades and was brought back to life by the Creative Land Trust with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. As part of this collaboration, students will spend the upcoming term developing designs for better uses of the South block yard and the adjacent municipal car park.
