It was a pleasure to talk about my global knowledge of the nascent black soldier fly industry at CropTec last week. Having completed my Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust world tour earlier this year, I shared many insights with the audience. The event organisers pitched my topic as "farming around the world", alongside fellow speakers Wallace Currie and Felipe Harrison, whilst the session was expertly chaired by Jamie Stokes. Here's what I spoke about: 🪰 Controlled agricultural systems (such as insect farming) can be seen as a one-size-fits-all model. But, this couldn't be further from the truth. 🪰 Using case studies from Canada to Tanzania to Brazil, I discussed how it is better to mould your model into the local community, whether this is a physical environment, the economic constraints, regulatory framework, or how developed the supply chain is. 🪰 I finished off by examining how all my learnings could be applied to the UK market.
