Offshore Energy 24: Amsterdam: Day 1 Nonstop day of meetings with valued clients and new contacts. Great hospitality from so many, some great conversations, and the future certainly looks very positive for oil & gas production, renewables, and decom. Great to share some of the CUT news, including our recent award nomination, 2024 projects completed, records broken, 2025 outlook, and new developments. CUT will continue to be the global pioneers for external cutting.
Cutting Underwater Technologies Ltd
Oil and Gas
Globally recognised as diamond wire cutting specialists.
About us
Cutting Underwater Technologies has more than 40 years’ experience in providing both “off the shelf” and “bespoke” diamond wire-cutting solutions to the Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Renewables and Decommissioning Industries globally. From our bases in Aberdeen, UAE and Singapore, the CUT Group has successfully performed more than 7,000 cuts, including, involvement in the removal of 138 platforms and 213 pipelines, not to mention an array of other targets as diverse as multi-strings, chains, drill strings, risers, monopile’s, guideposts, pipes and shipwrecks! The CUT Group offers both “off the shelf” and “bespoke” diamond wire cutting solutions. In addition to our existing fleet of more than 180 diamond wire tools ranging from 5.5” to 288” cutting capacity CUT regularly provides clients with bespoke solutions. Our diamond wire cutting machines are not constrained by water depth. They can be surface powered down to 200m. Below 200m, our deepest cut to date being more than 2,745m in the Gulf of Mexico, DWCM’s are powered by WROV either via “hot stabs” or 6m long umbilical. In the nuclear sector we have gained valuable experience of using both our diamond wire cutting machines and our plasma cutting machines on a variety of targets. The Plasma Machines can also be set up to incorporate a dedicated clamping system to fix onto and support the piece which will be cut free.

PROJECT AWARD Good end to the week for CUT, with another project award, this time for a project in offshore Senegal, cutting studless chains on a FLNG facility. We regularly cut chains, in air and subsea, up to 6.75” diameter. Thanks to our unique diamond wire, the cutting durations are the best in the market. Our cutting machines are small and lightweight, making it far easier to deploy, clamp, cut and retrieve, compared to alternative solutions. Our Operators have the technical knowledge to overcome unforeseen challenges and always ensure we get the job done. That’s why clients use CUT again and again. We look forward to working for this valued client. #decommissioning #subseacutting #oilandgasindustry

3 PROJECT AWARDS, 3 PROJECTS COMPLETED A busy week at CUT with 3 new awards. These contracts involve subsea cutting of varied targets, from 5¾” chains, up to 66” jacket piles, and almost everything in-between! These projects will take place in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea. The 3 projects completed were for a pipelay project offshore Mexico using our 50” machine, a pile cutting project in UK using our 30” and 40” machines, and a multi-platform decom scope in the North Sea, Dutch Sector using our 36” machine. In all cases, the operations were performed safely and efficiently, and the customer feedback was excellent. Well done to the whole CUT team for the professional work completed. Our track record and “cutting edge” technology ensure that CUT is the obvious choice for subsea cutting scopes. Only CUT have the range of equipment, patented cutting technique and unique diamond wire to ensure cuts are completed 1st time, and with the fastest cutting times in the market. #decommissioning #subsea #renewableenergy #oilandgas

The recent publication by the Government of Western Australia highlights actions required to minimise risks while conducting offshore platform removals. Actions required include “use castellated cut designs where a possibility of rotation (turning moment) of the load exists”. CUT have exclusive use of a patent for castellated/step cuts. Therefore, we are the only diamond wire cutting specialist who can provide the castellated/step cut service mentioned. Report is here: https://lnkd.in/gsPNzXBu hashtag #decommissioning
