  • Make sure you protect yourself online! Phishing scams are everywhere, and students are often prime targets. Cybercriminals use tactics like fake authority, urgency, emotional triggers, and current events to trick you into revealing personal information. Stay alert, think before you click, and protect your information with these simple tips: 🔍 Verify any messages claiming to be from official sources. ⏰ Don’t fall for urgent demands—they’re often a red flag. 📢 Be careful with messages that sound too good to be true or play on your emotions. If something feels off, report it and help keep our community safe. Learn more at the NCSC: https://lnkd.in/em6e5Qkv #CyberSecurity #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth

GFCE Europe Regional Meeting 2024: Advancing Cyber Capacity Building Yesterday, GFCE convened the Europe Regional Meeting in Brussels, which was held back-to-back with the European Cyber Agora and spearheaded by insightful discussions on advancing cyber capacity building (CCB) efforts. With a diverse panel of esteemed speakers and a dynamic moderator, the event provided a platform to chart the course forward in fostering international cooperation and bolstering cyber resilience across regions. Opening the event, David Van Duren, Director of the GFCE Secretariat, emphasized the pivotal role of collaboration in shaping a robust global cyber capacity-building ecosystem. He underscored the GFCE's unique approach of bringing together members, partners, and implementers to facilitate the coordination and implementation of CCB initiatives. This inclusive model, complemented by tools like the Cybil portal, global research agenda, and clearing house process, empowers stakeholders to harness competencies, expertise, and resources effectively. GFCE's strategic regional expansion with teams and hubs established in Africa, the Pacific, Southeast Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean aims to support local communities better, amplify GFCE's impact, and lay the groundwork for successful CCB implementation. By providing essential preconditions for action, GFCE strives to empower its global community to drive meaningful change. GFCE extends our sincere gratitude to the speakers Dr. Cormac Callanan, Cyber Security Coordinator of the ESIWA; Moctar Yedaly, Africa Hub Director at GFCE; Silja-Madli Ossip, Community Lead at EU CyberNet; Miguel Exposito, Deputy Head of Unit for Science, Technology, Innovation and Digitalisation at the European Commission’s DG INTPA, and the esteemed moderator, Tereza Horejsova, Outreach Manager at GFCE, for sharing valuable insights and perspectives in the event. #CyberCapacityBuilding #GFCE #GlobalCooperation

  • I was absolutely delighted to welcome our next guest speaker Klara Stankova to Regent's University London for a special session on cyber security - Cybersecurity Empowerment- Building Careers & Capacity. As a Cyber Light Society president I am grateful to have managed to organize an event that not only highlighted the critical importance of building a cyber capacity globally, but also underscored the role of more inclusive leadership in global cyber diplomacy. 💡Klara Stankova works as an Advisor at the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE). Her current position is focused on helping to facilitate the Women in International Security and Cyberspace Fellowship (WiC), which encourages the active involvement of women diplomats in UN cyber negotiations, creating numerous opportunities for growth and empowerment. 💡Klara also explained to us the main aims of the Women in Cyber Capacity Building Network (WiCCB). We learned how important it is to create a strong community of women cybersecurity professionals and recognize the unique local needs and differences that affect women in the field. 💡Lastly, Klara shared with us the great outcomes of the Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building (GC3B) held in Accra, Ghana. 💡Klara also shared valuable tips and advice for those interested in cyber security field or any field they want to pursue in the future: - Don't be afraid! - Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose - Approach professionals, ask questions, network - Stay informed, read, know what is happening - Look for opportunities everywhere, not only the big players 😊🌐🤝 I would like to thank you so much Klara Stankova for joining us and for taking the time from your busy schedule. We learned so much with you and your passion and joy for your meaningful job was contagious! Thank you Àngels Trias-i-Valls and Bhagya T. for participation! • 💡In the past two weeks we were watching the film Social Dilemma 💡What is it about? Social media has long been celebrated for its role in empowering voices, supporting justice movements and being able to stay connected all over the world. It became especially crucial in 2020 as a way to stay in touch with our loved ones during the pandemic. Yet, this great tool has a subtle control over our lives. Directed by Jeff Orlowski and Larissa R., the film blends documentary investigation with narrative drama to uncover how the popular social media and search platforms work, looking into their profound impact on society. We learn how significant influence a group of Silicon Valley engineers has on our thoughts, changes in behaviors, and lifestyles. We discover the origins of issues such as conspiracy theories, teen mental health problems or widespread misinformation. The film also emphasizes that most users don't fully understand how these platforms work, leading to visible and harmful effects on society. These effects are so severe that they can pose an existential threat to humanity, highlighting an urgent need for greater transparency and awareness in our digital interactions. 💡Highly recommend to watch it! 💡See the trailer here: https://lnkd.in/diQmMcB #privacy #cybesecurity #socialdilemma #socialmedia
