We are looking forward to attending EngageU_eu next week in Malmö, Sweden. This Claris, an Apple company event is the largest European conference dedicated to the powerful Claris FileMaker platform. Owned by Apple, Claris FileMaker is one of the world’s most reliable and versatile platforms for bespoke software systems. We’re particularly excited about networking with like-minded FileMaker developers, catching up with key members of the Claris team, and expanding our knowledge of the FileMaker platform. #FileMaker #Events

This quality management consultancy had a problem. Their mission-critical FileMaker system was running on a version of Windows server which was about to become unsupported, alongside a version of FileMaker server which was already unsupported. This was becoming urgent, particularly for an organisation in the business of compliance and best practice. But the fix wasn’t simple. Their FileMaker developer was becoming increasingly concerned about what would happen when they moved their system to a new server and new server software – and he had good reason to be. Many of the features the business relied on had been deprecated and would no longer work, and the system included various software integrations that could go wrong. In fact the entire system could go down. We were called in for support on the upgrade process. We left everything working as it was, took a copy and worked on that instead. We asked the client to test it in a safe environment to ensure everything was just right, and then made the changes live. Throughout the process we collaborated closely with the existing developer so he could understand how to work with the upgraded system. When the new system went live for the business, any problems had already been ironed out and it was smooth, painless experience. 𝐇𝐑 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐉𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬  Our Head of Technical and Operations, Jason Furnell, looks after a team of eight people and recently gained an HR qualification – the Foundation Certificate from the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personal Development). The course took a year and involved hundreds of hours of learning, covering a spectrum of HR topics from the importance of culture to performance management and legal issues. Jason says he now feels much better equipped to tackle this side of his work. ‘The people part of my role is possibly the best bit – it’s fascinating,’ he says. ‘And now I have the knowledge to comment on things authoritatively, to guide and nurture the business so we are doing the right things for our people.’ #HumanResources #PersonalDevelopment #Management #Leadership

Today is World Mental Health Day and this year’s theme is workplace mental health, something very important to Decent Group. We believe it’s important that Decent Group helps our employees live a happy and fulfilled life. One of these ways is by supporting employees with mental health challenges. We have signed the Mindful Employer charter, a UK-wide mental health initiative. We also take active steps to help our team with any mental health issues, including signposting local resources and full use of occupational health therapies. We aim to tackle the things that stress people at work; we encourage everyone to communicate about any problems they are experiencing – whether with their line manager or a colleague; and of course we would have zero tolerance for bullying, harassment or discriminatory behaviour if these were ever to come up among our team. We believe that mental health awareness and supporting employees, while reducing stigma and discrimination are crucial for a happy and productive team and also firmly believe that everyone has a voice that is heard.
