Do you know what Restorative Justice involves? It brings people harmed by crime and those into contact with each other, giving victims the chance to be heard, ask questions of offenders and have a say in the resolution. The service also provides an opportunity for offenders to face up to the consequences of their actions and commit to changing their behaviours. Both Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and I see Restorative Justice as an important part of our work to put victims first and reduce crime. That's why the Mayor has recommissioned Restorative Solutions to deliver our region-wide service, investing nearly £900k over three years. If you have been a victim of a crime in West Yorkshire, to find about more about Restorative Justice visit https://lnkd.in/g5_z9UNx call 0800 783 1550 or email rjwestyorkshire@restorativesolutions.org.uk

Wonderful to help a charity celebrate such a positive milestone 🙌 The Well Women Centre in Wakefield supports women who have experienced abuse, trauma and adversity and last week they invited Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and myself along to their fantastic new space in the city centre. We also heard about their ambitions to further develop the space by adding 1-2-1 rooms, a waiting area and restroom. The Mayor and I are both committed to making West Yorkshire a safer, fairer place for all our women and girls and the contribution made by charities and partner organisations is so vital if we are to succeed. Could your big idea for making West Yorkshire safer benefit from a share of £1million? Thanks to Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and her Safer Communities Fund money seized from criminals by police and prosecutors is being re-invested back into our local communities where it will make a real difference. If you've got an idea for a project that will help keep your area safer then please get in touch by December 13. Or if there are groups you work with that could benefit, please share and encourage them to apply. All the information you need ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dmhK7fVJ

Why shouldn't women and girls feel safe to go out in public at night? Despite all the amazing work by Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, we know that many view the long winter months as a curfew and feel forced to change their outdoor routines as the clocks go back and evenings become darker. That's why we're holding a free event in Huddersfield later this month to empower women, girls and male allies to stand up for safer public spaces after dusk and #ReclaimtheNight Please join us at Greenhead Park and spread the word 📣 🦺 Wear some fluorescent or bright clothing if you can Find out more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eUFsGYgc

Nobody is immune when it comes to our mental health - it affects us all. My experience as the former CEO of Touchstone informs the work I do today as Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and it is why I believe it is vital everyone has access to the right support. ➡️ We commission services to support victims and people in need. ➡️ Fund community group projects designed to promote wellbeing. ➡️ Work with the police to ensure officers are getting the right support to deal with the situations they face at work. ➡️ And it’s why we work with partners to support vulnerable people, taking a trauma-informed approach to prevent exploitation. Working together to make mental health an everyday priority will make a real difference to the wellbeing of our communities. #WMHD2024

I'm committed to doing all I can to empower our women and girls 📣 As someone with lived experience of sexual abuse, I understand the devastating impact it has, which is why I'm passionate about not only improving support available but also driving lasting change. That's why I was privileged to be asked to contribute to Calderdale-based Verd de gris arts' new podcast series The Journey of Change this week. It led to some vitally important conversations so look out for the episode 'Take the Power Back' when the series launches early next year 🎧
