Celebrating women in tech in East Anglia.

About us

East Anglian's annual awards ceremony celebrating women in tech roles. The DevelopHER awards are all about recognising the women who already work in technology and inspiring the next generation to join them. Across the land there are women making their mark in a male dominated world and we want to help them shine. We know working in the technology doesn’t only mean developers and our awards aim to acknowledge the efforts of women across all areas of the industry. Do you know a designer who makes the web look like a Michelangelo, a developer whose code give you goose bumps? A UX designer who knows what the visitor wants before they do or a project manager who can make even the most surly team into a well oiled machine?

Growing up as an extrovert, I was the kid who’d talk to anyone - teachers, strangers, even my stuffed animals 🙃 Public speaking? No biggie... until it was. Fast forward to last week, and there I was, prepping to my acceptance speech in a room full of inspiring, accomplished women at the DevelopHER Awards. The nerves showed up uninvited - tapping me on the shoulder with “what ifs” and self-doubt. But here’s the thing: confidence doesn’t mean never being nervous; it means showing up anyway 🕺 And I’m so glad I did. Standing on that stage, sharing my story, the purpose of Against Ordinary and the work that had got me recognised for the award felt good. But better yet, seeing the audience nod, applaud and even giggle at my jokes felt even better. People in that room WANTED to hear what I had to say, and a few even came up to talk to me after, keen for more details. It was a reminder that sometimes the moments that scare us the most are the ones that shape us the most. To my fellow extroverts who still get the jitters from time to time, and to everyone who pushes through their fears to grow: keep going 🚀 Being nervous won't change the outcome of your experience unless you let it 💪✨ #AwardWin #AwardWinning #PublicSpeaking #DevelopHERAwards #AwardWinningDesigner #EmbracingFear #AnxiousAndOkay

  • Throwback to our very first DevelopHER Awards 9 years ago today. As a not for profit awards ceremony we simply couldn't exist without our incredible sponsors and those that generously volunteer their time. It's wonderful to have some faces that have been with us every step of the journey so far. A special shout out to everyone in these photos. Thank you for helping us build the awards into what it is today. 🌟 Sarah Smith Andy Smith Jon Skeet Sam Parnell StrategiQ

It's been a week since the award ceremony, I've had many thoughts and emotions. So I did what I do when I've got too many emotions to process, I write. This goes out to all black women, queers and gender-nonconforming individuals in tech, I see you ❤️

    So I won an award...

Women supporting women ✨ With only 12.6% of Creative Directors being female and women only representing 26% of people working in technology, collaborating with DevelopHER Awards on their rebrand was a match made in heaven. There's still so much to do for true gender equality, and we're hoping that the rebrand will attract more people, raise more awareness and make even more of an impact on people working in underrepresented industries. We kept the iconic parts of the event, the stars and the pink tones, but reimagined the rest. "Shining a light on women in tech" was the hero statement that we used to inform the visual direction, creating dramatic gradients that not only reflect lights but also the atmosphere of the event. #DevelopHERAwards #BrandAgency #Branding #EventBranding #CampaignAgainstMundane #WomenSupportingWomen

Throughout 2024, Redgate Software has hosted and participated in events designed to support, celebrate and include the women in our business, and raise awareness around the challenges women can experience in the workforce. In March we marked International Women’s Day with lightning talks from women around the business curated by Inside Sales Representative Shelby Vaught. We heard from Chief Revenue Officer Cassi Roper speaking about her team’s efforts to shift the gender balance in Redgate’s Commercial function, Software Engineer Kajal Sandhu celebrating forgotten women in technology history, Events Coordinator Jemma Hunter on being a feminist even when women aren’t around, Business Development Manager Michaela Murray on the stereotypes around being a ‘working mum’ and ‘stay at home dad’, Head of Product Design Tushita Gupta on paradoxes of leadership, and Chief Marketing Officer Kate Duggan on how to be the hero of your own career story. In October we celebrated Redgate Women in Engineering week. Software Engineers Danielle Summers, Sabrina Fuizzotto and Imogen Taylor shared their career stories and experiences of working in Engineering at Redgate on the SheCanCode blog (Danielle, Sabrina) and podcast. Redgaters attended the Ada Lovelace Day event in London and via a remote watch party at our office in Cambridge. And we heard further lightning talks from Product Designer Sybil Hoang on childcare policies and Machine Learning engineer Mary Amaizu on navigating the AI career path.  In November Redgate sponsored the Eye for Design award at the DevelopHER awards, and we were delighted to see Product Designer Moyosore Ale’s work recognised as this year’s winner of the User Experience DevelopHER award! Throughout the year our Inclusive Engineering working group have focused on attracting and retaining more women in Engineering through various initiatives. We’re currently in the middle of planning an equally exciting range of events to ensure Redgate celebrates and elevates women during 2025.
