About us

Established in 2013, Developing Teachers, Schools and Academies is a not for profit Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered at Bemrose School in Derby. Our charity believes that every child in every class in every school deserves the best teaching and learning. DTSA offer school-to-school improvement support and collaboration that contributes to ‘raising the bar and closing the gap’ in achievement for all children. We continue to grow and now work with over 1175 schools across the East Midlands. Initial Teacher Training Education (ITTE), Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire STEM Science Learning Partnership (SLP) are all a part of our offer.

  • The latest partnership to join our Enthuse Partnership programme is Rushey Mead Primary. Rushey Mead Primary is the lead school for the Enthuse Partnership of schools which includes Abbey Mead Primary Academy, Hope Hamilton CofE Primary School, Humberstone Infant Academy, Humberstone Junior School, Merrydale Junior School, St Patrick’s Catholic Voluntary Academy, Thurnby Mead Primary Academy, Willowbrook Mead Primary Academy, Falcons Primary School, Catherine Infant School, Herrick Primary School, Leicester City Primary PRU, Merrydale Infant School, Scraptoft Valley Primary School. The partnership is being coached and project managed by Anna Cummings MSc alongside The National Space Centre in Leicester between March 2024 and March 2025. The partnership has set out to achieve: ▶ Having accurate assessment of student and improved teacher confidence in delivery and assessment.   • Mornington Primary School is the lead school for the Enthuse Partnership of schools which includes Awsworth Primary and Nursery School, Blidworth Oaks Primary School, Gilthill Primary School, Heathlands Primary School, Hollywell Primary School, Kimberley Primary School, Larkfields Infant School, Street Lane Primary School. The partnership is being coached and project managed by Anna Cummings MSc between June 2023 and May 2025.   • The Haydn Primary School is the lead school for the Enthuse Partnership of schools which includes Seely Primary School, Robin Hood Primary School, Westglade Primary School, Dovecote Primary, Rufford Primary and Nursery School, Carrington Primary and Nursery School. The partnership is being coached by John Jefferies and project managed by Anna Cummings MSc between October 2023 and September 2025. The partnership set out to achieve: ▶ Focus on the teaching of DT in primary schools, and how it can be enhanced by other STEM subjects such as Science, engineering, electronics, CAD/CAM, architecture and more ▶ Improved liaison with STEM Ambassadors, industries and companies to create opportunities to link teaching to the wider world and increase student understanding of STEM career prospects ▶ Improved access to teacher training in STEM subjects The partnership has so far achieved... Impact for Teachers: ✅ Upskilled teachers who are more confident and knowledgeable in DT. Staff are equipped with the ability to plan high quality, sequential and progressive lessons that engage and challenge all children. ✅ Meaningful cross curricular links are being promoted between STEM subjects in the National Curriculum. ✅ The importance of STEM subjects for Secondary learning and beyond is being promoted, and how these skills can be transferrable and useful for children’s future careers. Impact for Pupils: ✅ Pupils have a better idea of how DT looks in the wider world and have [been given] more opportunities to take risks, to become resourceful, innovative, and enterprising. ✅ Ensuring that it is accessible for all pupils including SEND, but also to extend greater depth in children and those who have a keen interest in STEM subjects. ✅ Helping children to see how important STEM subjects are for our rapidly changing world and understanding how these skills can be transferrable and useful for their future careers.   • The West Bridgford School is the lead school for the Enthuse Partnership of schools which includes Castle Donington College, CP Riverside School, Highfields School, John Flamsteed Community School, Limehurst Academy, The Joseph Whitaker School, THE KIMBERLEY SCHOOL, The Ripley Academy, The South Wolds Academy. The partnership is being coached and project managed by Anna Cummings MSc between April 2023 and March 2025.   • Thornsett Primary School is the lead school for the Enthuse Partnership of schools which includes Buxworth Primary School, Chapel En-Le-Frith Primary School, Furness Vale Primary School, Hayfield Primary School, New Mills Primary School, Newtown Primary School, St George’s CofE Primary School, St. Luke’s CofE Primary School, Taxal and Fernilee Primary School, Whaley Bridge Primary School. The partnership set out to achieve: ▶ Ensuring Science units of work have regular opportunities for Working Scientifically that are supported better with recording technology (Data Loggers, etc) ▶ Make better links across the STEM (and wider) curriculum, including Computing ▶ Further develop STEM links to Food Technology ▶ For all areas, ensure all those delivering the STEM curriculum, including Teaching Assistants, have the CPD required to deliver the above three outcomes The partnership has so far achieved: ✅ It is evident through lesson observations, planning scrutiny, and pupil voice that some of the ideas from CPD have been implemented. Pupils are very enthusiastic about STEM learning and the Working Scientifically strand was strong. ✅ Science Subject leads have shared with staff in their school settings, the useful learning points from the CPD. The Science Subject leads will monitor these during the coming terms. ✅ Staff are enthused by the project, also helping with provision of high quality resources and have arranged for use of Micro:bits and data loggers for the second half of the year. They are keen to access CPD too, to help them use the resources effectively. The partnership set out to achieve: ▶ Working scientifically is an improvement areas across the schools ▶ A large group of these schools have focussed on Maths and Behaviour over the past 2 years and now need help to integrate Science leadership into the staff and improve assessment models to drive up science standards ▶ Introduction of DT to teachers to help their confidence in teaching this growing area The partnership has so far achieved: ✅ Space Week at Sandfield was hugely successful, resulting in the production of a special ‘newspaper’ made by Year 6 reporters ✅ More science leads are kept up to date with recent developments, such as new Explorify UK resources and focussing on the 10 key issues in teaching primary Science ✅ Science leads understand the impact of new initiatives ✅ Teacher and pupil attitudes towards Science have improved ✅ Schools are looking at tracking data for Autumn 2022 which is encouraging as not all schools did this for the whole school. ✅ Teachers in schools have reported that Working Scientifically is being covered more within the Programmes of Study units and teachers are becoming more focused on just one or two objectives whilst teaching. The partnership set out to achieve: ▶ Improved KS2 outcomes ▶ Improved teacher retention ▶ Improvement in confidence to teach science practically The partnership has so far achieved: ✅ CPD for staff has been provided which has led to key ideas being shared during staff meetings and new practices being put in place ✅ Subject and phase leaders have improved knowledge and professional development ✅ Staff have been able to access specialist guidance in areas which are not often allocated during specific staff meeting time, such as Design and Technology or specific Science knowledge ✅ 'Science book look' showed that there was the beginnings of change in the way Science was taught and recorded which is a direct impact of CPD ✅ Impact is being measured through regular monitoring processes such as a termly subject deep dives. This involves looking at work, observing lessons, and talking to students.   • Allestree Woodlands School Official is the lead school for the Enthuse Partnership of schools which includes City of Derby Academy, Derby Cathedral School, Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, The Bemrose School and Sixth Form. The partnership is being coached and project managed by Anna Cummings MSc between April 2023 and March 2025. The partnership set out to achieve: ▶ Improved attainment in STEM subjects via increased quality of teaching ▶ Increased quality of subject leadership ▶ Increased quality and provision of STEM enrichment opportunities The partnership has so far achieved: ✅ Allestree and Bemrose schools have signed up for the MOD Cyber Proposal offer via STEM Learning and the SLP ✅ Attendance by technicians and teaching staff has resulted in improved knowledge and understanding, and improved provision in a practical offering ✅ Anecdotal evidence via student voice suggests that students appreciate the wider range of practicals schools are now able to offer ✅ Teaching staff appreciate the advice and guidance given by technicians following the practical training they have received.
