About us
We are enabling children around the world to get creative with technology and invent in school, in clubs and at home! The micro:bit is a handheld, fully programmable computer given to every Year 7 child across the UK - and now being used around the world. It’s 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original BBC Micro computers used in schools in the early 1980s. Started by the BBC and a great team of partners, the Micro:bit Educational Foundation is a non-profit organisation.

🌍 Our Chief of Learning, Magda Wood recently attended a UNICEF Innovation Global Learning Innovation Hub's Tinkering with Tech celebration with UNICEF Montenegro. Students rose to set challenges, creating prototypes and developing their digital skills with micro:bit. 👀 Read Magda's takeaways:
In honour of teachers Right at the end of last year I attended a showcase of children's work. The room was full of imaginative, well-researched, working prototypes all devised and created by the brilliant students crowded around tables together. This event was also a celebration of the work accomplished by their teachers and an acknowledgement of their endless commitment to their students' education. I describe the 'endless commitment' of those teaching professionals because I've been privileged to sit on their weekly community of practice meetings since September. Each of the teachers are working full time, many of them in schools that work double shifts taking their teaching hours beyond 6pm. The community of practice meetings started at 7pm, often running for 1.5 hours. This group of teachers often discussed the challenges of finding adequate teaching time and suitable teaching space for this special project. Each week they found ways to make it work and returned with stories of the delight, joy and progress made by their students. I'll remember their commitment and how modest they were about their responsibilities and what it takes to be a member of the teaching profession. While I can't list all of the individual teachers here, I can recognise their two professional coaches Nevena Cabrilo Dragutin Šćekić and celebrate the professional generosity, expertise and leadership they demonstrated in their work on the UNICEF Innovation Global Learning Innovation Hub's Tinkering with Tech initiative in Montenegro. Big shout out to Iñaki Sánchez Ciarrusta for your good company on the trip and your enthusiasm and support for our collaboration on this initiative.
