In safety-critical systems, memory safety is non-negotiable. Our latest blog by Paul Butcher explores how CHERI (Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions) enhances safety by design, preventing common memory vulnerabilities at the hardware level. Learn how CHERI integrates with Ada and SPARK to build secure, reliable systems for critical applications. How do you see hardware-enforced memory safety shaping the future of critical systems? Let us know in the comments!
🔊 If you have not already had the chance to read the latest blog from Paul Butcher, UK Programme Manager and Head of Dynamic Analysis at AdaCore; you can catch it here on the Digital Security by Design (DSbD) News Page ! This blog - "Building Safety by Design: CHERI in Critical Systems Development" from Adacore, explores how #CHERI (Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions) enhances safety-critical system security by preventing memory safety issues and supporting secure exception handling. It discusses integrating CHERI with Ada runtimes to ensure fault tolerance and adherence to high-assurance standards like DO-178C, emphasizing proactive cybersecurity strategies for systems such as aerospace applications. The concept of "Secure by Default" is critical, as emphasized in the article, for ensuring that systems are inherently resilient to vulnerabilities. By integrating security mechanisms like #CHERI into hardware and software from the outset, the risk of memory safety issues and exploitable flaws is significantly reduced. This approach minimizes the reliance on external safeguards, making safety-critical systems, such as those in aerospace, both robust and compliant with rigorous standards. This proactive strategy aligns with modern cybersecurity needs for high-assurance environments.
