It was a privilege to attend the NHS Marketplace launch yesterday and showcase Doc Abode alongside other groundbreaking innovations. A huge thank you to techUK, Accenture and NHS England for organising a fantastic day. Special thanks to Dr Andrew Jones at Amazon Web Services (AWS) for reaching out to provide this opportunity and for all the continued support along the way and to Guy Player from Accenture in helping to run a seamless session as a speaker. I’d also like to thank Chris Garner from NHS North Central London ICB for presenting alongside me and sharing a commissioner’s perspective on supporting the out-of-hospital left shift. It was a fantastic opportunity to highlight how we’re collaborating to deliver this shift through our Doc Abode roll-out across NHS North Central London ICB. His insights highlighted the importance of collaboration in ensuring that new solutions align with NHS priorities and drive meaningful change. A few people have contacted me who were unable to make it to the event yesterday asking more about what the event was like and what I learned from it so I’ve posted all my pics from the day and other ‘action shots’ in the hope they are helpful and provide some further information and insights (apologies to the gentleman sat near the screen who features in most of them!). There have already been some great write-ups from the likes of Hassan Chaudhury HonFAPM (link to his article in comments) and John McGhie, so in the interests of not repeating too much, here are my takeaways from the day: - The NHS Marketplace is being designed as a unifying platform to scale innovations, reduce duplication, and enhance patient care. - There must be a synergy between NHS initiatives like the NHS Innovation Accelerator and NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme and this new digital NHS Marketplace, ensuring innovations are adopted widely and effectively. - This won’t replace the marketplaces from Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google but is aimed to build on them. - there are still unanswered questions as to how this new Marketplace will sit alongside, integrate, (or replace?) eg. FDP Lot 3 Marketplace We have time to shape what the NHS Marketplace will become – it is planned to go live in December 2025. I had the opportunity to speak with John Quinn, NHS England CIO, who was really open to industry feedback and new ideas on how this Marketplace can hopefully help with some of the innovation barriers to innovation I mentioned in my talk (see slide in comments). It was a privilege to contribute to these vital conversations and I look forward to seeing how the marketplace evolves to meet the needs of our healthcare ecosystem.
