This year has been tough. There is much to do to protect our patients affected by crises around the world. Thank you so much for your support. - Simon

Mayotte 🔴 This is what we are working with right now. Our teams on the ground were hit by the cyclone, just like everyone there. Yesterday, we had managed to re-establish contact with only 3 of 25 volunteers. Our priority right now is to find them and prepare for our emergency response. The cyclone has destroyed the homes of people living in incredibly precarious conditions; slums particularly vulnerable to climate disasters, where Doctors of the World works on a daily basis. The major issue of access to water and the lack of essential services, particularly healthcare services, has been neglected for far too long in #Mayotte. Doctors of the World is preparing to provide an appropriate response and is organising to strengthen its teams as soon as possible in order to assist the entire population.

For years, the housing system wasn’t a ladder—but a maze full of snakes. Refugees now get a chance to find a way out, with the government increasing the move-on period from 28 to 56 days. Safe and secure housing is paramount to physical and mental health, yet many refugees still face unsafe conditions, harassment, exploitation, and the threat of homelessness. 💙 With Refugee Council we will be watching carefully to understand the impact of this change in practise – and continue our calls for reform to ensure that refugees, like EVERYONE living in the UK, can build a home in dignity.

🔴 Syria As the political situation and security conditions evolve rapidly, the humanitarian crisis caused by 13 years of conflict persists. 16.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. These needs will continue to grow with the massive displacement of over one million people within Syria and near its borders, particularly in Lebanon. We have been working in Syria since 2008. We are adapting our activities by deploying medical teams and providing material aid in regions affected, including Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and Damascus. We are calling on all parties to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian assistance. Simultaneously, we urge host countries of Syrian refugees to uphold the principle of non-refoulement, as humanitarian conditions remain insufficient to ensure the safe return of Syrians living abroad. Violence, bombings, a devastated health system, no access to clean water, food, medicine and medical equipment: this is the daily life of Ahmed and his family, like millions of people in Gaza. We refuse to look away as death and destruction continue. Israel must end the unlawful occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory. Please share. #EndtheOcupation #DayOfSolidarity #ceasefirenow #doctorsoftheworld #medecinsdumonde

Child malnutrition; let's talk about it. The presence of armed militias in DRC creates chronic insecurity; causing large population displacement and an urgent humanitarian need for food and nutrition assistance, as well as access to water and protection. ➡️ The Tanganyika Province in DRC has an acute malnutrition rate of 12% among children under 5 years of age. Doctors of the World has been active in this region since 2021 to reduce rates of malnutrition and provide access to care through our mobile clinics and connections to health facilities. 🚑 #WorldChildrenDay
