We have been sponsoring Sutton Soup for around 3 years now, along with Samuels Artisan Bakery (who knew sourdough bread could be delivered), London Music Duo, SM1 Print Studio, Ace Accounting, Sainsbury's and Sutton Council.
Jeff Richards and his team at Sutton Soup bring together local people, from all walks of life, to talk about the positive things going on in the community and someone wins a ‘pot of money’ raised at the event.
I met and spoke to so many wonderful people, but I will just mention a few here:
The team from PlayWise Learning CIC, who offer practical and educational support to parents and families of children with additional needs and disabilities. Families often struggle financially when parents are unable to work whilst looking after children with complex needs. This year they will be financially helping to provide a Christmas meal for those families who need it.
I also met the team from Nickel Support, who offer employment opportunities to disabled young adults. We heard about the coffee, chutneys and other products they have and the wellbeing side of work for their employees. We will be visiting their café in Cheam village (in Sutton) as a family.
This time the winner of the prize, of £1,411, went to The Paul Alan Project CIC, a charity focused on supplying life-saving training and equipment. I met Clare, the founder of the project, after her father sadly passed away from a cardiac arrest. The defibrillators that she has raised money for have been used over 50 times. The prize money will ensure that more people are trained, and more defibrillators are available in public places, to save more lives. I’m booking on to get my training!
