With further warming, climate change risks will become more complex and so harder to manage. The graphic below illustrates the direct and indirect consequences of climate hazards. It comes from our new interactive data visualisation, ‘Climate Adaptation: A Security Risk?’, which shows how interventions meant to combat climate change or its implications often interact with entrenched political and economic systems, potentially leading to protests or even violent resistance. Ceasefires between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have halted rocket, missile and drone attacks into Israel in recent weeks. Even in the event they collapse, neither Hamas nor Hezbollah appear able to sustain frequent attacks against Israeli cities as they did at the height of the conflict last year. Our graphic shows our current risk ratings for Israel. It was produced in support of an intelligence report on the impact of the recent ceasefires on security risks in Israel. The number of armed robberies against commercial shipping in Southeast Asia has risen over the past two years. Fifty-two such incidents took place in 2024 alone, according to data by regional monitoring service ReCAAP, with most taking place in the Singapore Strait. Our report identifies the most likely hotspots for seaborne theft in 2025. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eXQhu3aE #MaritimeSecurity #ShippingRisks #Piracy #SoutheastAsia #SingaporeStrait

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains extremely fragile. Its first phase is due to expire at the end of February. However, there are strong signs that the two sides will fail to agree on the terms to transition to the second phase of the deal. Our report examines what a collapse of the ceasefire would mean for already-high regional conflict risks. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/ecvXYNkJ #Israel #Hamas #Gazaceasefire

Efforts to address climate change are intensifying. So for security teams, the implications of these mitigation measures are likely to come into focus. For example, corporate land acquisitions for reforestation can undermine local livelihoods without delivering meaningful environmental benefits. Our new interactive data visualisation, Climate Adaptation: A Security Risk? illustrates this with examples in Brazil, Colombia, Papua New Guinea and Sierra Leone. 👇 Grab your copy here: https://lnkd.in/erduq_bS #climatechange #climate #securityintelligence

The average daily number of cyberattacks against Taiwan doubled in 2024 compared with 2023. It is very plausible that state hackers or cybercriminals would mount cyberattacks to try and disrupt operations at Taiwanese ports in the coming years. Our map identifies the locations of ransomware attacks on ports globally in recent years. It supports our report looking at the outlook for Chinese cyber operations in 2025.
