  • "I joined DWP Digital on a three month placement to help with the implementation of a new internal system and I never left. "My career in operations was varied. I processed benefits, made labour market decisions, led teams and wrote appeals. My experience meant I came to my new role with a passion for wanting to make things better for the customer and improve their interactions with the department. "I was able to use my existing experience of working in operational teams to give the project team a wider understanding of the pressures faced by our users. I steadily grew my skill set, in areas such as stakeholder management and analysis by working with a multi-disciplinary agile team. "I wanted to know everything. I observed how the team worked together, I pushed myself out my comfort zone and I led sessions with stakeholders and elicited requirements. "I talked to people, found out what they needed, and why they needed it. Looking back, it was my first step into the business analyst role. My time with the project extended, and I developed my skills further, then applied for a business analyst role — and was successful." Read more of Kelly's story here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eaYPkdyf

Head of Role for Agile Delivery at Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

One of my favourite things about working in DWP Digital is community. There are numerous strong communities which support and educate. Today I jointly ran the London DWP Digital Delivery community day. We tried out interactive learning simulations (games!) to learn about team bonding, leadership, team dynamics, metrics, communication, planning, synchronisation, change and continuous improvement (yes, we covered a lot!). All the techniques were designed to be used by the delivery managers with their teams. We shared our views and help build each others' capability. People who work in the same office doing the same job met each other and can support each other from now on. And there were free books!

  • "This is real world stuff and we can get real value out of it." Why are #hackathons like this year's Hack for Good so important when looking for solutions to the problems that the department faces? Our Deputy Director Andy Tyack talks about the ways an outside perspective can lead to new and exciting ideas on how to address the important issues we work on. #innovation

  • As part of Leeds Digital Festival 2024, we teamed up with Hippo to host our Hack for Good. The #hackathon gave the multidisciplinary teams a chance to use their expertise to devise ways #data and #automation could increase employment and customer engagement. Participants came from a wide range of backgrounds - from charities to tech companies to students - and we heard some amazing ideas about how tech could be deployed innovatively to support millions of UK citizens.
