Ecommpay Explains: Payment settlement 💡 What is payment settlement? 🤔 In simple terms, settlement is the point in the payment process where the funds which have been collected from the customer’s account are transferred or ‘settled’ to the merchant’s. It’s a crucial step in any transaction because it completes the transaction and makes the funds available to spend by the merchant. It’s key to the cash-flow process. Without it, businesses wouldn’t actually get paid for the goods or services they sell. — Ecommpay payment settlement flow This graphic displays the behind-the-scenes process that occurs once a customer has initiated a purchase. Step one 1️⃣ Once the customer has completed the merchant’s payment page, by filling in their payment details, the purchase is almost complete on the customer’s side. Step two 2️⃣ The payment transaction data is sent from the merchant’s payment checkout through the payment gateway, to the payment processor who initiates the transaction with the acquirer. Ecommpay operates as both the processor and acquirer. Step three 3️⃣ The merchant acquirer verifies the transaction data with the relevant card network, such as Mastercard, Visa, American Express, etc. Step four 4️⃣ The card network checks with the customer’s bank (known as Issuing Bank) whether the requested funds are available in the customer’s account, and then make a charge for the transaction value. Step five 5️⃣ The issuing bank typically requires the customer to authorise the payment via 3DS verification before the transaction can be confirmed and ‘authorised’. The customer will then receive a message displaying the status of the transaction e.g. Authorised or Declined. Fees are collected from the Issuing Bank Account and move back through the ecosystem to be deposited in the Acquiring Bank Account. Step six 6️⃣ The Acquirer will initiate settlement so that the correct funds are transferred into the merchant’s account. With Net Settlement the after acquiring fees are deducted before payment is made and in Gross Settlement, the settlement is made in full and fees are charged as a separate transaction. — Ecommpay is a facilitator of open banking, a payment gateway, and an acquirer, meaning that once the customer makes a purchase, Ecommpay handles everything behind the scenes, keeping the process simple for the buyer. — Learn more about the payment settlement process here: https://lnkd.in/dDxd8axe #Ecommpay #PaymentProcessor #PaymentFlow #eCommerce #Transaction #PaymentSettlement #Infographic #PaymentSettlementInfographic

Having attended the very first conference years ago with just 60 attendees, it’s incredible to see how it has evolved into a major industry event with over 500 professionals coming together to tackle financial crime risk and compliance. This year’s discussions focus on navigating the ever-evolving complexities of financial crime risk—how to manage it, adapt to it, and truly understand its intricacies. I’ve always been a strong advocate for this conference, and it’s inspiring to see so many dedicated professionals working together to combat financial crime. Ecommpay charity auction! Around 100 people joined our charity auction in our offices, with another 80 more online, We had 31 incredible lots, from hand-crafted goods and unique pieces of art to exclusive mentoring sessions and home-made bakes. Together, we raised €2465, which the company tripled to €7395 for Street Child, supporting children's education worldwide.
