Packaging firms urged to join small-format recovery consortium - #mechanicalrecycling #post-consumerrecycled #plastics #packaging #innovation #technology #packagingdesign Closed Loop Partners (CLP) is encouraging packaging manufacturers and brand owners to sign up to a new industry consortium after research found that ‘tens of thousands of tonnes of valuable small materials’ could be retrieved from materials recovery facilities (MRFs) and glass recycling plants across the US. The recommendation comes after a report from the CLP Centre for the Circular Economy, in collaboration with its subsidiary Circular Services – which operates more than 20 MRFs across the US – found a viable pathway was possible to recover valuable plastics, including PP. Oben orders ‘world’s first’ 12m wide BOPP line - #bopp #films #plastics #packaging #innovation #technology #packagingdesign South American firm Oben Group has ordered a 12m wide BOPP line for its new production facility in Monterrey, Mexico. Brückner Group, which is delivering the equipment, said it is the world’s first BOPP line with a film width of 12m and an output of 94,000 tonnes per annum. The line is also said to have a speed of 700m/min. Packaging films producer Oben has 17 manufacturing plants across the Americas and Europe. It supplies thermoformed products, PP construction boars and PET straps. Resynergi raises $18m for pyrolysis plant - #chemicalrecycling #pyrolysis #plastics #packaging #innovation #technology #packagingdesign Chemical recycling start-up Resynergi has raised the necessary funds to allow it to commission its first commercial-scale pyrolysis plant. The $18 million Series B extension funding, led by the Perenco Group’s investment and asset management company Taranis, will empower Resynergi to address the ‘outsized demand’ for sustainable, circular plastics resin, the company said. It will also position the Rohnert Park, California-headquartered business to play a key role in addressing what it claims will be an estimated 70 per cent global growth in plastics waste by 2050. In a statement, the Canadian-based business reported that specific systems within its corporation had been impacted. Immediate steps had been taken to contain and mitigate any potential impact on data and operations, the Montreal, Quebec-headquartered company said. These included a ‘comprehensive investigation’ to determine the source and full extent of the incident and collaboration with third-party cyber-security experts, working in accordance with industry best practices.
