New Met for London (Southwark), was an inspirational event. I had the pleasure of hosting it and was left blown away by the power of the youth voices in shaping our discussions on current and future policing policy on a localised level. Well done to all the young people and other representatives from the local community who contributed to the discussion. The ideas the young people generated show why they have to be a considerable part of it. As they rightly stated, they will be the recipients of our choices in the long term. They should be at the forefront of helping us shape it. The plan moving forward is the hosting of a series of these events across all London boroughs throughout the year. Hopefully, many more local individuals can join and be part of the big conversation. I want to say a big thank you for all those who contributed to making this event a success. Last weekend, I was invited to speak as part of a panel for a Black History Month Community Fun Day hosted by Elevated Minds CIC. It was a pleasure to not only share my journey into journalism, but to see how significant the charity has been in supporting young people to flourish in their life-long journeys. It was great to hear Marcia Mascoll and Elijah Amoako speak authentically about their journeys into their respective industries, and how important allyship is. Saturday reaffirmed my belief that no young person has to be left behind - we can help them achieve their goals, with the right support and mindset, despite external challenges they may face. I can only imagine how many more young people’s lives Doreen S-M B.Ed(Hons), NPQH, NLP Dip and the rest of the charity’s team will improve with the opening of its new office in south London.

  • 💚 World Mental Health Day: A Reminder to Prioritise Well-being 🧠 At Elevated Minds CIC, we recognise the importance of mental health in shaping the lives and futures of young people. Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, let’s commit to breaking the stigma and fostering environments where everyone feels safe to speak openly about their mental well-being. Mental health is not a destination but a journey. Whether you're a young person, parent, or professional, it’s crucial to take time to reflect, recharge, and reach out for support when needed. 💭 Tip of the Day: Take a moment to check in with yourself. It’s okay to ask for help, and it’s okay to rest. Your mental health matters. 💚 Together, we can build a world where mental health is prioritised and supported. 💬 https://lnkd.in/ej8Q6ngK #WorldMentalHealthDay #ElevatedMinds #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthEmpowerment #CommunitySupport #WellbeingAtWork

  • 🌟 Spotlight on the Identity Project 🌟 In this interview, we asked Doreen Sinclar-McCollin, CEO of Elevated Minds: "How have you seen the IDENTITY Project change the way young people view themselves, particularly those who were excluded from mainstream education?" The IDENTITY Project helps young people explore their sense of self, build emotional intelligence, and discover their purpose. By providing a space for self-expression and growth, it’s empowering those often overlooked by mainstream education to embrace their full potential. 🙌✨ Want to learn more about the Identity Project and how it’s transforming lives?
