  • In two years the Emergency Service Challenge has raised £30,284 for charity! This year, in climbing Kilimanjaro, the team raised £10,073 and last year the team climbed to Mount Everest Base Camp and raised £20,011. The two teams were much larger last year so more money was raised this year per participant. In climbing the world's biggest mountains, the team have managed to benefit the following charities: ThinBlueLineUK TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity Police Care UK You Okay, Doc? Care Of Police Survivors (COPS) ADHD Foundation Neurodiversity Charity The Police Children's Charity The Police Treatment Centres 999 RE:SET From Carl, the events organiser, I'm so proud of the all of those people who have taken part and helped fundraise such a phenomenal amount of money in two years. Thank you for all the efforts you have made to change the lives of so many people in the emergency services. Where to next?! #fundraising #charity

  • Today, some of the team went off on their long-awaited safari for a few days before heading home. The others are at the airport, ready to board their flights home. We’re filled with reflection and gratitude for what we have achieved together. The final fundraising total is yet to be confirmed, but we were approaching £9,500, which is a phenomenal figure. This has increased per person compared to last year. Not only will some amazing charities benefit from the fundraising, but those who took part in the trek will have memories that will last a lifetime. In this photo are the strong men and women who supported us up the mountain. They fed us, housed us, kept us safe, and they couldn’t do enough to ensure we had an incredible experience. Their lust for life and the smiles they brought to our faces each day were nothing short of life-changing. They didn’t want much; they don’t have much, but what they do have is life in abundance. They have everything and more, and we have certainly learnt from the way they conduct themselves and treat others. We’re working on a full review of this year’s challenge, and next year’s events will be released in the next week or so! Are you interested in taking part and raising money for emergency service charities? If you’re a charity looking to set up an event, please get in touch too. 360 Expeditions Sky Blue Adventures

  • The Emergency Service Challenge team reached 4600m above sea level today at Lava Tower. We’ve just finished an 8-hour day ending at Baranco Camp which is 3900m above sea level, so everyone is exhausted! We haven’t had much signal so far, which has made it difficult to send updates. We have so much to share but for now we just want to say thank you for all of your support and kind messages 💙 Some team members have experienced moderate altitude sickness but have been digging deep and pushing forward. The 360 Expeditions team has been taking great care of us, and we are so grateful for their support. We’ve been well fed, and we’re inspired by how hard they work for us. We have two more days of walking before we attempt the summit on Wednesday night into Thursday. 🏔️ This trip has shown how positive the future is between 360 Expeditions, Sky Blue Adventures and the Emergency Service Challenge.

Determined Metropolitan Police officer Jacque Avard has left no stone unturned in preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and is winning before she even starts. The Havering-based 45-year-old jets off to Africa on September 19 to climb the iconic Tanzanian peak to raise money for Police Care UK as part of the Emergency Service Challenge. Jacque, who works in business support at The Peel Centre, Hendon, has been working on her strength and fitness in the gym five-times-week and has completed several training hikes in the Peak District and Wales, too. She signed-up for the Challenge to help support the mental health of her colleagues and discover what she is capable of. And Jacque, who is joined on the trek by fellow Police Care UK fundraiser and former Metropolitan Police superintendent Matthew Gray, says she is proud of the results thus far. “I’m feeling very excited and can’t wait to get there now,” she said last week. “No-one can predict how each individual is going to react to altitude, but I have done all I can to prepare. “All the training has helped so much and it has helped me feel better in myself. “It feels good knowing I’m raising money for such a good cause that will help officers, staff and their families.” Police Care UK is the leading national police charity, providing clinical therapy and financial support to police officers, staff and their families, who have suffered physical or psychological trauma in a policing role. • Meet one of the Emergency Service Challenge team, Ian, a recently retired Sergeant with Merseyside Police, who has an affinity for mental physical and psychological health services for blue light responders. He believes in ensuring those who protect the vulnerable and serve their community deserve the best in welfare & wellbeing practices. With the help of Thin Blue Line Radio, Ian is fundraising for The Police Children's Charity, 999 RE:SET and The Police Treatment Centres. He is doing incredibly well fundraising so far, he has raised £1200! He would really appreciate your support to give him a boost up Mount Kilimanjaro. 🏔🦁 Find out more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/duxSiyXk Just 1 day to go until we leave for the second Emergency Service Challenge!
