BP has confirmed plans to cut 8,000 jobs as it continues to “simplify and focus” the company. “I understand and recognise the uncertainty this brings for everyone whose job may be at risk, and also the effect it can have on colleagues and teams. “We have a range of support available, and please continue to show care for each other, be considerate, and keep putting safety first – especially during times of change," said bp CEO Murray Auchincloss. UK energy secretary Ed Miliband says the government will soon launch a consultation with industry on Labour’s North Sea oil and gas licensing policy. It comes three years after Scotland’s SNP administration pledged £80 million in support for the Acorn developers and the Scottish Cluster centred on Grangemouth. “Gillian Martin and the SNP have run out of excuses for not releasing the funding they promised for Acorn and didn’t even have the decency to mention the project in its 2025-26 Scottish Budget," said Scottish Conservative MSP Douglas Lumsden.
