About us

Every day enfinium transforms waste into energy to help power homes, businesses and the circular economy. As one of the largest energy from waste operators in the UK, we are also transforming the way our industry serves customers, communities and the environment. By playing our part in the decarbonisation of waste management, the national grid and society as a whole, we are helping the UK deliver on its commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions. At a glance: • 4 operating facilities, 2 under construction • A team of 250 valued employees • 2.3 million tonnes of local and regional post-recycled waste diverted from landfill • 265MW total combined electric generating capacity (gross) • 500,000 UK homes powered • 440,000 tonnes of ash recycled as construction aggregate • 80,000 tonnes of Air Pollution Control Residue (APCr) recycled to create building blocks for use in construction.

  • Today we officially launch the UK’s first carbon capture pilot at an energy from waste site, partnering with Hitachi Zosen Inova. The launch is a milestone for the UK's carbon capture sector and an important step in enfinium's strategy to deploy CCUS across our six facilities, generating carbon removals at scale and support the UK’s Net Zero target. Further details of our pilot, along with endorsing quotes from the Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin and the CEO of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association Olivia Powis, can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ekrth_TU We also thank The Times for their coverage of the pilot in today's edition.

  • Our thanks to Samuel Kurtz MS for highlighting our Parc Adfer CCS project in the Senedd yesterday.   The window is quickly closing to make the case for Wales to benefit from the HyNet carbon capture and storage network. This will be one of the first commercial scale networks in the world, which could help to restore the region’s rightful place as a global industrial leader.

Visited enfinium in North Wales, an impressive facility turning 232,000 tonnes of waste into clean energy! ⚡️ ♻️ Their plans for carbon capture at Parc Adfer could make it Wales’ largest carbon removals project, a game-changer for decarbonisation. I asked the First Minister how the Welsh Gov is working to secure UK Government support for this vital project.

  • Last week, we had the pleasure to welcome the new Leader of the Conservatives in Wales, Darren Millar, accompanied by his policy Spokesperson for Energy & Economy in the Senedd, Samuel Kurtz MS, and our local regional Senedd Members, Samuel Rowlands and Mark Isherwood, to Parc Adfer. This was an important opportunity for us to share an update on our plans to install carbon capture at the site and the opportunities this presents for the region and the whole of Wales.   With carbon capture installed, Parc Adfer will become the largest carbon removals project in Wales and the ~£200m investment will support hundreds of jobs through the construction and beyond.

This week presented some new opportunities for me to share enfinium’s vision and decarbonisation strategy with others.   On Tuesday, I spoke at the CCUS & Hydrogen Summit in Leeds, outlining the progress we have made delivering on our Net Zero Transition Plan. Since we published the Plan in May last year, we have deployed the UK’s first EfW CCUS pilot at our Ferrybridge site and have made good progress on our commercial-scale Parc Adfer CCS project, which could deliver significant economic growth and decarbonisation for North Wales by 2030.   On Thursday, I participated in a panel hosted by the Global Infrastructure Investor Association and PWC on the UK’s Clean Power Mission. The positive role EfW plays in the power sector is often overlooked, despite accounting for 6% of Britain’s baseload power. As energy demand grows over the coming years, I firmly believe there are exciting new opportunities for EfW plant, through private wires or heat offtakes, to provide energy users with reliable, homegrown energy.

We are thrilled to see the Aire Valley Heat and Power Network reach another key milestone, as it is awarded vital funding from the Government’s Green Heat Network Fund. enfinium CEO Mike Maudsley provided the below response: “We are proud of the key enabling role enfinium's new state-of-the-art Skelton Grange energy from waste facility will play in the Aire Valley Heat and Power Network.    "Even if the UK meets its ambitious recycling targets there will still be over 17 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste by 2042 that needs to be sustainably managed. Harnessing energy from waste for local heat and power is an important step towards reducing energy bills and delivering a more circular economy." • It’s National Apprenticeship Week and what better time to look back on three successful years of the enfinium apprenticeship scheme! Apprenticeships and our individual apprentices are so important to us an organisation, bringing fresh perspectives and carrying out vital work in support of our onsite teams. We are therefore very excited to say that we will be looking to continue the scheme later this year, with the recruitment process beginning soon and a brand new group of apprentices joining us towards the end of the year! So if you know anyone looking to get into Operations, Maintenance, Health and Safety or any of the other skill sets we are looking for at enfinium, and they are interested in vocational training or an apprenticeship, please let us know. You can find out more about our apprenticeship scheme, and get in touch with us, via our apprenticeship webpage: https://lnkd.in/eXpfFJF8 #NAW2025

  • We were delighted to host teams from Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Environment Agency yesterday at our Ferrybridge facility to show them our UK-first CCS pilot plant and discuss key emerging policies for our sector, including the ETS Expansion and Greenhouse Gas Removals.   Getting these policies right will be integral to our ambitious plans to decarbonise the UK’s waste and become of the UK and Europe’s largest carbon removal businesses.
