About us

The School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) at The University of Manchester was formed in 2013 and forges an interdisciplinary partnership of five interrelated specialisms. Manchester School of Architecture is an innovative collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University and The University of Manchester, with strong research and practice links into urban design and sustainability, and ranked as one of the top places to study architecture in the world. Manchester Institute of Education (MIE) has been promoting public education and championing the vulnerable since 1890. MIE is a leading university provider of Initial Teacher Education and of doctoral programmes with a global reputation for excellence in educational research. Established more than 125 years ago, Geography at Manchester is in the top tier of Geography departments in the world, exploring a diverse range of cultural, economic, urban, and political global challenges. The Global Development Institute (GDI) is a culmination of an impressive history of development studies at The University of Manchester which was first established in 1958. The Global Development Institute formed in 2016, uniting the strengths of the Institute for Development Policy and Management (IDPM) and the Brooks World Poverty Institute. The department of Planning, Property and Environmental Management is one of the UK's largest planning departments with a 60-year record of academic leadership. Specialisms include environmental assessment and management; real estate; regeneration; urban and regional planning; and urban design.
