We were proud to welcome Labour MP for Sunderland Central Lewis Atkinson to our Sunderland College Bede Campus to showcase our outstanding curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and positive impact on the local community! 🤝 During his visit Lewis spoke with students in the Media Centre’s cutting-edge TV studio who discussed their course, expressed their pride in their city and aspirations for working in the creative industries which have never looked brighter, especially with Crown Works Studios set to open in Sunderland in 2027. ✅ Lewis also met with politics students who were taking part in a virtual parliamentary debate in the award-winning Immersive Space who also had the chance to ask about how he got into politics, his background in industry, and the main challenges faced by his constituency and the wider city. Today, we are proudly hosting the thought-provoking ‘Project 2,999’ art piece. We are honoured to display the ‘Project 2,999’ blanket in our Living Staircase at Sunderland College - a powerful visual reminder of the 2,999 children and young people who faced suspension or permanent exclusion in the 2021-22 academic year, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those with special educational needs. This project, led by Dr. Sarah Martin-Denham from the University of Sunderland, holds deep meaning. Our direction and foundation learners at the college helped crochet squares for this thought-provoking project, with each crocheted square representing a young life affected - symbolising the students too often left behind.

Our colleges were some of the first providers to deliver T Levels. ✅ There are a wide range of #TLevels available at the colleges, including Construction courses, and for anyone who is passionate about building and infrastructure, these courses can develop knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for a dynamic career in the construction industry. Health and safety, construction technology, and project management are all focuses of these courses, ensuring a well-rounded education for all, allowing them to be a part of shaping the future of our built environment. #ConstructingTheFuture
