The Asia Pacific (APAC) region holds immense potential for clean, secure wind energy. From 2024 to 2030, APAC is expected to account for 61% of global new wind capacity. Onshore wind capacity alone could double to 1,084 GW by the end of the decade, while offshore wind has the potential to add another 122 GW. As the industry looks to ramp up the pace of new capacity installations, the APAC region has an important role in delivering the wind energy needed for the global net zero transition. In our latest episode of Sustainable Connections, Mark Lee talks to Feng Zhao, Chief Research Officer at the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), and Breanne Gellatly, Renewables Partner at ERM, about what needs to be done to accelerate wind energy in Asia Pacific, including: - Current challenges of accelerating wind energy development in Asia Pacific (APAC) - Tackling wind supply chain and installation bottlenecks in APAC - Opportunities for APAC countries to scale up wind supply chains - How can different stakeholders collaborate to reach APAC wind targets They also discuss their new report on building the Asia Pacific wind energy supply chain for a 1.5°C world. Effective tailings management is more than an operational necessity—it's a vital part of demonstrating the mining industry's dedication to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. While the industry has made strides in safe tailings dam design, experience shows us that if the primary consideration is the potential impact on people and the planet, better financial and reputational outcomes follow. The steel sector and its stakeholders are rapidly waking up to the decarbonization challenge, including the need to improve the cost position of lower carbon technology pathways, reduce supply chain emissions, and ensure a just low carbon transition. For steelmakers looking to decarbonize, low-carbon steelmaking does not necessarily need to reach cost parity with BF-BOF steel to be competitive, as increasing numbers of steel buyers are willing to pay a green premium for low-carbon steel and more government support becomes available to fund decarbonization. Steel producers, the power sector, raw material suppliers, policymakers, steel buyers, and financial institutions can all play their part in accelerating steel decarbonization by taking the following actions: Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eshXw66U #GreenSteel #Decarbonization #LowCarbon  Silvian BaltacIgnacio Rabsiun AramburuThomas ButlerYamini Panchaksharam
