Since Friday, Asda colleagues have stepped up in tough conditions to respond to the extreme weather brought by Storm Éowyn to keep our customers and colleagues safe.    Our stores and depots in Northern Ireland and Scotland, as well as parts of North West England, saw the worst of the storm and we had to close a number of sites. So many of our amazing colleagues have gone above and beyond to support their stores, their customers, their colleagues and their communities.   We’re proud that through The Asda Foundation, we will now be supporting local areas as they begin their clean-up operation. The Asda Foundation support remains available to those communities that need it through our Emergency grant programme. The funds will enable groups in local communities to provide essential supplies such as water, tea, coffee, milk and hygiene products. Many groups in local communities have opened their doors to act as community hubs for people to access power, warm food and drinks and shelter. We’re excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with Podback to make recycling used plastic and aluminium coffee pods easier in our stores! Coffee pods can’t be recycled traditionally due to their size and organic content, but when recycled, can be converted into renewable energy and repurposed into items like drink cans and garden furniture. The free-to-use Podback service was created by Nestlé and JDE Professional UK in 2021 to makes pod recycling simpler and more convenient. Yesterday, Dunbar Primary School received a surprise visit from Joe Wicks after being named the top fundraiser in Asda’s Cashpot for Schools initiative. Launched in September last year, the initiative saw us donate 0.5% of the value of our customers shopping to a primary school of their choice each time they shopped using Asda Rewards. Over £5.7 million will now be donated to nearly 22,000 state-funded schools across the UK. Joe presented Dunbar Primary with a cheque for £4,215.88, which will go towards funding playground upgrades and a sensory garden. Of course, Joe couldn’t leave without also leading a 15-minute workout and hosting a Q&A session with the energetic pupils! Asda has today announced that David Lepley will join its Executive team as Chief Supply Chain Officer, to lead our food and general merchandise supply operations. David’s appointment forms part of the leadership changes Asda announced last week as we double down on our mission to satisfy the daily and weekly shopping needs of ordinary working people and their families who demand value. The move is a return ‘home’ for David, having previously spent over 15 years with Asda, starting as a Christmas temp colleague in the Grantham store and leaving as VP Online Grocery Operations. Allan Leighton, Asda’s Executive Chairman, said: “Delivering the outstanding value and legendary service our customers demand begins with making sure they can get the products they want every time they shop with us. David has considerable experience in grocery logistics and supply chain, and I am delighted that he is coming home to Asda to lead this key area for the business.”      Welcome back David!

When an eight-year-old boy with cerebral palsy wasn’t sure he had enough money to buy a big cuddly toy at our Stockton store, Paul, who has cerebral palsy himself, stepped in to help. He told the boy it was a magical dog and offered to pay half the cost. The boy’s mum was so touched, she wrote to the store saying, “He made a young boy very happy.” Paul, who’s been with Asda for 13 years, always tries to do something kind every month, whether it’s buying a coffee or offering a helping hand. Customer Trading Manager Ian Parnaby has nominated Paul for an Asda Service Superstar award for his outstanding kindness and customer service. Well done, Paul! 🌟 #AsdaServiceSuperstar #ProudToBeAsda

Last week, our fantastic team at Asda Hull Mount Pleasant hosted local MP Karl Turner to meet the interns in our Supported Internship Programme. This year-long initiative offers work placements to students with learning disabilities, providing real-world experience and boosting confidence to improve employability. With just 4.8% of people with learning disabilities in England going on to secure paid employment post-education, we’ve expanded the programme to 11 stores to provide more students with the opportunity to learn new skills and grow in confidence so that they can gain employment once they finish their studies ✅ You can read more about the programme here: https://lnkd.in/ed-HYREW
