👋 This week, we were joined by our returning Your Future students and welcomed the young people joining us to start their Smart Futures programme journey! Over the next few weeks, young people from across England and Scotland will continue to develop their employability skills, complete a paid work experience, and make the most of this opportunity. Our Your Future students will have also gotten involved in a bootcamp day of certified online security and safety and excel training. Thank you to all our volunteers and employer partners – we're looking forward to hearing more about your career experiences and advice – and good luck to our participants, we can’t wait to see how you get on! 👀 Let’s see how they’ve been doing so far… #SmartFutures #YourFuture

💪 Our second group of fundraisers have smashed their trek to Angkor Wat! Congratulations to our 15 fundraisers who trekked across challenging terrain in the blistering Cambodian heat last week. Your efforts have raised a fantastic £22,400 and counting! 🙌 This means in total, our Angkor Wat trekkers have raised £66,900! An amazing amount that will go a long way to helping young people from low-income backgrounds overcome barriers to the workplace. “Best experience ever. Loved it. Best thing I have done in 23 years at EY” - Sally Bucknell, Group 1 Angkor Wat Fundraiser 👉 If you’d like to celebrate and support their efforts, you can add to their fundraising total here: https://lnkd.in/eepPSs3g #Fundraising #AngkorWat #Trek

The EY Foundation welcomes the government's White Paper and its commitment to creating an inclusive labour market. 🤝 As a member of the Youth Employment Group, we are particularly encouraged by the Youth Guarantee, which aims to ensure all 18 to 21-year-olds have access to education, training, or employment opportunities. 📍 We know background and geography can significantly impact a young person’s prospects, so it’s great to see the eight Youth Guarantee Trailblazers across England, which will provide tailored support and connect local systems to ensure no young person misses out. 📣 We also welcome the government's commitment to using young people’s voices and experiences to help design and deliver this vision. At the EY Foundation, we are dedicated to amplifying youth voice and ensuring the lived experiences of young people shape the future of our labour market. We look forward to contributing to the initiatives set out in the white paper to break down barriers to opportunity and ensure that every young person has the chance to succeed.
The plan to Get Britain Working. The Government has unveiled the biggest reforms to employment support for a generation, backed by £240 million of investment. This marks the first step towards achieving the ambitious goal of an 80% employment rate. ** Fixing the NHS and tackling economic inactivity caused by ill health. ** Eight areas will lead the design of joined-up work, health and skills support so everyone who wants to work gets the support they need. Extra capacity in the NHS will reduce waiting lists in areas with the highest levels of inactivity. ** Creating a new National Jobs and Careers Service to help people into work. ** Jobcentres across Britain will be overhauled and, in England, brought together with the National Careers Service to create a genuine jobs and careers service for all. Jobcentre staff will have flexibility to offer a more personalised service to jobseekers. ** Delivering a new Youth Guarantee to support young people into work. ** Every 18-to-21-year old in England will have access to an apprenticeship, quality training and education, or help to find a job. Eight trailblazer areas will match those most at risk of falling out of education or employment with training or work. ** Empowering mayors to shape an effective work, health and skills offer for local people. ** Mayors and local areas will be given the power and funding to design their own Get Britain Working plans. This will empower those who know their communities best to deliver real employment opportunities for the people in their area. ** Reviewing the role of UK employers in promoting health and inclusive workplaces. ** An independent review will be held to find out what more can be done to help employers recruit and retain disabled people and those with a health condition. The review will get input from key stakeholders before it concludes in summer 2025. Have you seen our Youth Advisory Board members' blog on Fair Education Alliance’s Youth Summit in London? Last month, Fairy and John met with other young people, young leaders, educators, and policy makers to develop the skills and tools needed for advocacy and policy change. What were their key takeaways? 💡 Recognising the power of mentoring as a way to encourage young people to use their voice for positive change. 💡 The importance of balancing personal emotions with professional advocacy. 💡 The role of politics and class in media and how these dynamics influence opportunities for young people. 💡 The potential of digital approaches to enhance educational accessibility. 💡 How to craft a campaign that resonates while avoiding common pitfalls like overextending or losing focus. We look forward to seeing how this experience will support both Fairy and John to advocate for themselves, the EY Foundation, and their peers, using their voices to help break down barriers to work that young people from low-income backgrounds face. 👉 If you haven't already, read their blog for their full reflections on the summit here: https://lnkd.in/gRakdi78 #YouthVoice #YouthSummit #Advocacy

🤖 Do young people see AI as a positive or negative development when it comes to job opportunities? The future of work is in flux, and to better prepare young people for the changes to come we are exploring the link between access to and knowledge of AI and career opportunities. Aspiring entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds are spending more time and money developing business ideas than their peers*, and increased reliance on AI in the workplace is placing greater importance on human-centric skills. In response to this, we’ve been running AI-focused workshops with young people from low-income backgrounds: 1) AI & Your Side Hustle 2) AI Literacy & Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Evaluation of the pilots has shown that: 👉 Young people believe that AI is a useful tool 👉 AI can be viewed by young people as a positive for their future 💪 Equipping young people with the vital skills they need for the future workplace also increases their motivation and their confidence in what this rapidly changing landscape means for them. Read more about the outcomes of our AI pilots and what we’ll continue to focus on as we work to secure equitable employment opportunities for young people from low-income backgrounds: https://lnkd.in/excSvpXX If you have ideas on how we can ensure a more inclusive future of work – get in touch with our Digital Manager Freya: freya.mumford@eyfoundation.ey.com. 🚗 Over the past few months, we’ve been touring the UK for our 10-year anniversary roadshow! It’s been fantastic to bring the EY Foundation to EY offices in Cambridge, Reading, Southampton, Bristol, Luton, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, to celebrate supporters and young people from these regions and welcome more brilliant people into our community. Importantly, we were able to raise awareness of our work and our bold ambition to support all young people on free school meals across the UK over the next 10 years! We’ve been inspired by the stories from those who feel personally connected to advancing social mobility and have loved hearing their passion for ensuring young people from low-income backgrounds can thrive at work. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise these events and to those who came along to learn about our work and sign themselves up to support young people. 🎉 Next year we look forward to visiting the EY Leeds and Liverpool offices to continue the celebration! If you’re interested in making a positive impact on social mobility, visit our website to find out how you can join our supporter community - https://lnkd.in/e8y4axcG or email us at volunteering@eyfoundation.ey.com. #ImpactRoadshow #Volunteer #Fundraise #SocialMobility

🎊 Congratulations and well done to our first group of fundraisers who completed our Angkor Wat trek this week! Covering ~94km across five days, and battling the varying terrains of valleys, hills and dense forests as well as the tropical climate of Cambodia, they’ve raised an amazing £43,800 and counting! 👏 A massive thank you to our brilliant trekkers Dr Sally Harris, Clare Roberts OBE, Helen Spence, Helen McHugh, Stephen Church, Sally Bucknell, Adrian Williams and Jodie McNally. We’ve seen the pictures, and we know it definitely wasn’t a walk in the park - your efforts will go a long way to ensuring young people from low-income backgrounds can thrive in the workplace. That’s not the end of the EY Foundation travels - good luck to our second group of intrepid fundraisers who are heading out tomorrow! We know you’ll smash it. 👉 Thank you to those who have supported our trekkers on this challenge and if you’d like to encourage and donate to our second group you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eepPSs3g #Fundraising #Fundraiser #Trek

❔ How do you use numbers in your job? It’s not just accountants and maths teachers, most of us use numbers in some way in our roles. In fact, two-thirds of people in the UK say that feeling confident with numbers has helped them in their careers*, showing the vital role that maths plays in whatever job you do. Starting conversations can change attitudes towards maths and help people feel empowered to build their confidence with numbers. As part of Number Confidence Week, we asked members of the EY Foundation team to share some of the ways they use numbers within their roles. 👂 Here’s what they had to say… #NumberConfidenceWeek *Statistic from National Numeracy
