💫 Farrans appointed on Phase 2 of £30m project to protect water supply in Essex We have commenced work on the second phase of a £30m investment to protect and enhance the water supply to more than 300,000 people across #Essex. Essex & Suffolk Water is upgrading its Layer Water Treatment Works (WTW) in Layer de la Haye, to ensure a resilient supply of clean, clear and great tasting tap water. The £6m first stage of the work has included creating a brand new ‘sand yard’ at the rear of the site, housing a new sand washing machine that replaces an older model that had been in place at the front of the WTW. Sand washing ensures that the sand in filter beds – used as part of the process of clarifying the raw water during the treatment process – continues to deliver the best results. With the first stage complete, work has now started on the next phase which comprises installation of a Mecana filter block at the inlet to the site. This chemical free pre-treatment system will be built off-site, in the UK, to avoid disruption, prior to being delivered to the WTW and is anticipated to be installed by Summer 2026. Farrans and Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, working jointly as GFJV, have been celebrating and supporting the wellbeing of our #apprentices working on the delivery of the transformational public transport hub at Bristol Airport. Our apprentices attended a workshop raising their awareness of mental health issues and how to support others. They also spent time in a Q&A session with Dave Lees, Bristol Airport Chief Executive, sharing with him details of the work they have been involved in and how rewarding they are finding the apprentice experience on the project. By far one of the most pressing challenges facing the construction industry at present is the major skills shortage. On this project our team has developed a programme of activity which aligns with the priorities of our client and the local community providing, among other areas of work, employment opportunities and opening up learning opportunities for young people. To date we have supported 9 apprentices through the project with each one being provided with invaluable skills in various disciplines across the industry such as civil, mechanical & electrical engineering; dealing with complex designs; environmental and commercial planning. #apprentices #constructionjobs #education #farransconstruction #alungriffiths #bristolairport #NAW2025

💛Big news as Leeds Bradford Airport awards Phase 2 of LBA: REGEN contract to Farrans 💛 Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) has announced that it has awarded the contract for Phase 2 of construction works on its £100m regeneration project to Farrans as it continues to transform its terminal facilities to dramatically improve the passenger experience and help unlock economic growth for the region. With the terminal extension (Phase 1) due to handover in Summer 2025, the refurbishment of the existing terminal (Phase 2) of LBA: REGEN is expected to complete in Winter 2026, setting up an exciting period of development for the airport. We are already on-site completing Phase 1 of the project which involves the construction of the 9,500m2, three-storey terminal extension (pictured). Cathal Montague, Regional Director at Farrans, said: “We are pleased to be continuing our strong working relationship with Leeds Bradford Airport as they progress with this important improvement project which will have long term benefits for this region. Our experience in the aviation sector has enabled us to work collaboratively with our client to ensure the airport’s operations have continued without disruption, and we will be putting in place similar plans as we move forwards into Phase 2. “Our team is fully invested in the complete delivery of this regeneration project and I am pleased that we will be remaining on site to see the work come to completion at the end of Phase 2. Leeds is an important region for our business, we are all frequent users of LBA and we are looking forward to working together with the airport’s team on the successful delivery of the next stage of the project.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e7ggQ5Zb #contract #leeds #aviation #construction #civilengineering #LBA #futuresatfarrans

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week and our team has already been busy attending events across the UK to encourage the next generation of talent to consider a career in construction and civil engineering.👷🏽♀️👷🏻♂️ We recently took part in the CITB NI’s #NIAW2024 “Build your Career’ – Apprenticeships: Getting it Right for You event at W5 Belfast, where more than 167 pupils in years 12 to 14 came from schools across Northern Ireland. Our team in Scotland participated in a Careers Fair at Central Gurdwara in Glasgow and held classes at Hyndland Secondary School, focusing on pathways into construction. At Farrans, we want to provide everyone with an opportunity to work in construction and civil engineering. We also know that we don’t all learn in the same way. We offer Higher Level Apprenticeships at Level-5, Foundation Degree / Level-6, Degree / & Level-7 Masters in Construction Management, Civil Engineering & Quantity Surveying. We have apprenticeship opportunities in many other roles including planning, buying, bid writing and business administration among others. #civilengineering #nationalapprenticeshipsweek #construction #northernireland #scotland
