Today, the UK Government unveiled its AI Opportunities Action Plan – a 'blueprint to turbocharge AI'. Looking beyond the heavily trailed PR story this morning to the report itself, however, you will see a startling statement: “Today’s plan mainlines AI into the veins of this enterprising nation.” In an special article for PRWeek our very own Nicola Harrison gives her thoughts about how comparing AI to heroin feels like a serious comms blunder that might diminish one of the most significant Government announcements since coming to power last year and the importance of considered communications in a post-Covid world. Back in 2018, Thomas Finn took his father to a physiotherapy appointment. He was living with vascular dementia and displayed similar symptoms to those of someone with Parkinson’s disease. The physiotherapist was using cue markers - coloured lines on the floor - to help his father overcome his difficulties walking. The technique known as external cueing uses visual prompts to engage neural pathways that aren’t affected by Parkinson’s disease. This was the inspiration behind Strolll . Today, Strolll uses augmented reality (AR) to project virtual lines onto the ground, as well as other gamified tasks, to help those with Parkinson’s symptoms move and perform their physiotherapy exercises. CEO Jorgen Ellis spoke with Grace Browne at WIRED about how Strolll is using AR to revolutionise neurorehabilitation Check out the full piece below and in the January/February print edition, coming soon 👇

Fantastic morning spent discussing all things #DefenceTech at UK-Ukraine TechExchange's #defence #investor breakfast, hosted in collaboration with NOTWICS, Digital Catapult and FieldHouse! The expert panel, moderated by NOTWICS' Founder and CEO, 🦖 Christopher Lowe, featured Karl Eze, co-founder and CEO of Point Zenith, William McManners, Managing Partner at MD One Ventures and Steven Wood, Head of Industry Practice (Aerospace, Defence & Security) at Digital Catapult. Their primary focus was key 2024 DefenceTech trends and predictions for the year ahead ⏭️ Some key takeaways: ⚡ The importance of an increased public #DefenceBudget lies not in the final percentage but in the timeline for implementation. ⚡ The defence threats of the future will come in many different forms, but #Europe must rise to the challenge of defending itself from whatever new threats emerge. ⚡ We've seen a cultural shift this year in the way that defence #innovation is perceived, with private investors exploring new ways to help defence #startups cross the valley of death. ⚡ #Ukraine continues to generate some of the most exciting DefenceTech solutions in the world, but it remains to be seen how this will evolve in 2025 as the global political landscape is repositioned. Thank you to TechExchange's Founder and Principal, Andriy Dovbenko and 🦖 Christopher Lowe, for the opportunity to collaborate on such an exciting event, to Digital Catapult for the excellent venue, to the panellists and to all those who attended. #Technology #Event #Networking
