I had the most memorable night at Financial News' 100 Most Influential Women dinner yesterday. It was a personal accomplishment as I wore an Indian outfit at a work event for the first time to represent my culture. I am pleased to say that I haven't felt this included in a professional setting ever. We've done this list for 18 years and have learnt that diversity is broad and complicated. That's why this year we chose to focus on one aspect of it: disability. At our panel discussion, we heard stories of paralympic medallist and triple world champion Lauren Steadman MBE, Janus Henderson Investors' Sarah de Lagarde who is the first woman to climb Mt kilimanjaro with a prosthetic arm and leg and veteran banker Professor Charlotte Valeur who told us how her autism is her strength. I've got so many messages and emails already telling me how inspirational these women are! We had a room packed with senior women in finance so we used that opportunity to ask each table what their one big idea to improve diversity is - the answers could be a blueprint for the entire sector.
