The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps), founded in 1907, is an all-female voluntary organisation that deploys multi-faceted rapid response teams to support civil and military authorities in times of crisis. The Corps is a vibrant and diverse organisation of unpaid volunteers who are on call 24/7, 365 days a year to be of service to those who need us. #InternationalWomensDay #volunteering

The Commandant-in-Chief of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) (FANY (PRVC)); Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, opened the Corps’ new Headquarters at Wellington Barracks on Wednesday 5 February 2025. HRH The Princess Royal then met with a selection of supporters and members of the Corps to hear more about the deployments and events that have taken place in recent months; this included supporting the Greater London Authority (GLA) after the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) was activated due to the recent cold weather. Members of the Corps supported the Greater London Authority (GLA) last month after the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) was activated due to the recent cold weather. SWEP is an emergency humanitarian response to severe weather conditions, the primary aim of which is to preserve life for those sleeping on the streets. Each borough is expected to make its own local SWEP provisions for those sleeping rough in the area when the temperature reaches a trigger point (0°C or colder on any one night). FANYs, working alongside the British Red Cross, are supporting service users overnight at a ‘Warm Space’ provided by Greenwich local council. https://lnkd.in/edj6gRFU #volunteering

Members of the Corps supported the Special Operations Executive (SOE) Wreath Laying Service at Westminster Abbey on Friday 8 November. The SOE was formed in July 1940 on Winston Churchill’s orders to ‘set Europe ablaze’. The purpose was to organise active resistance to the Germans by any means possible, legal or illegal, gentlemanly or otherwise. One major contribution by the FANY to the work of the SOE was in Communications, in both Signals and Cipher departments. Many FANYs were posted to Grendon Underwood listening station, waiting to receive messages from the agents, because wireless was the most valuable link between the FANY operators based in the UK and the agents on the ground. Another major contribution was the FANY agents in the field. Thirty-nine of the 50 women sent into France were FANYs. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e34k6fHZ #armedforcescommunity #volunteering

Members of the Corps took part in the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London on Sunday 10 November. A squad of active members marched past the Cenotaph, with a small contingent of associate members walking smartly behind, after the main service to represent the current members of the Corps and all those who have gone before. Members of the Corps also provided watchkeeping support to London District in the military ops room, a listening watch on the medical network, and kept track of any casualties within the parading troops.  https://lnkd.in/e_kBzVZa #wewillrememberthem #volunteeringmatters #armedforcescommunity

On Sunday 10th November, representatives of the Corps gathered on the steps of St Paul's to attend the City of London's Service of Remembrance. In the presence of the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alastair King, members joined in a moving service alongside the City of London Sheriffs, Alderman, Livery company Masters, the HAC, cadets, scout's groups and others with strong links to the City. Following the service, FANYs took part in a wreath laying around the corner at the memorial outside the Royal Exchange, followed by a swift march past Mansion House and onto the welcome warmth of a reception hosted by the Lord Mayor.

Two FANYs took part in this year’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, which is organised by the Royal British Legion. This year, the Festival of Remembrance honoured the service of, and the sacrifices made by, British Armed Forces personnel: those who served in the past and those currently serving. The Festival further paid respects to the families, friends, colleagues and associations of personnel, and the organisations from across the network supporting the British Armed Forces community. #volunteering #armedforcommunity #wewillrememberthem #volunteeringmatters

🎉Members of the Corps took part in the Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday 9 November. 🎉60 members walked in the parade, with four riders on horseback, through London to celebrate the 696th Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King. 🐎This year the Corps is celebrating 120 years of Nursing support and is led by a mounted contingent of four riders in vintage uniforms to highlight the origins of the FANY who were originally trained as nurses on horseback to tend to those wounded on the frontline. https://lnkd.in/ePgfzWYH #volunteering #volunteeringmatters

Four FANYs took part in the Field of Remembrance on Thursday 7 November at Westminster Abbey, which was officially opened by The Duchess of Gloucester. The Field of Remembrance is organised by The Poppy Factory at Westminster Abbey every November to commemorate those who have lost their lives in the Armed Forces. Over 380 plots are laid out in the names of military associations and other organisations. Remembrance crosses and symbols are provided so that ex-Service men and women, as well as members of the public, can plant a symbol in memory of fallen comrades and loved ones. The Field is officially unveiled on the Thursday before Remembrance Sunday and stays open for a further ten days (Thursday 7th November until Sunday 17th November, from 9am to 4pm.) https://lnkd.in/er38RM2w #armedforcescommunity #wewillrememberthem #volunteeringmatters
