Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI), in collaboration with the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad's - Animal Law Center, is inviting researchers to join a groundbreaking study on pre-slaughter stunning for farmed fish in India. This pioneering initiative aims to enhance welfare standards in the Indian aquaculture industry by addressing critical challenges related to animal & fish #welfare, #sustainability, and product #quality. 📝 Why It Matters: Each year, over 3 billion #fish are farmed in India, typically subjected to hours of suffocation as a primary slaughter method. This practice leads to immense suffering and stress, which not only affects the welfare of the fish but also diminishes product quality. This research seeks to explore how pre-slaughter stunning can: - Significantly reduce fish suffering during slaughter - Improve product quality by minimizing pre-slaughter stress - Support a humane and sustainable aquaculture system 💡 Research Focus: Three core questions: 1. #Target #Population: Which stakeholder groups within India’s aquaculture sector are most likely to adopt pre-slaughter stunning technology? 2. #Incentives and #Barriers: What economic, logistical, cultural, or market-driven factors could incentivize or hinder the adoption of stunning technology? 3. #Pathway to #Scalability: What strategies or adjustments will be required to scale stunning technology across the #aquaculture industry? 💼 Who Should Apply: We seek researchers from social sciences, aquaculture, animal welfare, and related technical fields.
