'It always starts with a haunting. A new work of fiction has a kind of ghoulish gestation somewhere deep in the labyrinths of the mind. ' Behind the scenes for Pete Hartley 's Modern Gothic story!! https://lnkd.in/eYUXab_N

This week on Substack we're talking about book endorsements - why the industry loves them, and how to find the best fit for your book - https://lnkd.in/eSykFCF4 'Want to know who should endorse your book? Ask your beta readers, if you have them! They're your target audience, after all. Here are some questions I always recommend asking: - Which podcasts do they tune into? - What YouTube channels keep them coming back? - Who are their social media go-tos? - What books do they love? - Who writes those books? - Whose endorsements catch their eye? - For non-fiction: Who do they trust on your topic?'

Manchester Literature Festival 2024 📚✨✍🏻 This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Northern Publishers’ Fair as part of Manchester Literature Festival, celebrating the vibrant literary landscape of the North 🏙️ The festival runs throughout the month and includes a huge selection of events such as: 🎤 Author talks (from writers such as Matt Haig and Elif Shafak!) 📖 Book signings 🎙️ Live poetry performances ✍🏻 Writing workshops … and much more! Organised by Fly on the Wall Press, the Northern Publishers’ Fair featured 10 regional independent presses including Bluemoose Books, Comma Press, Saraband Books and others. It was an amazing opportunity to connect with so many publishers, writers and literary enthusiasts all in one space! Throughout the day there were various performances from authors and plenty of time to explore the incredible books on offer (more to add to my never-ending TBR 😅). I wish I lived closer to be able to attend more of the events on offer! 🚀 #ManchesterLiteratureFestival #NorthernPublishersFair #IndiePublishing #PublishingNetwork

I am devastated to inform you all of the death of Fly on the Wall Press author, Laura Fish. My thoughts and prayers are with her partner, Michael, and family at this terrible time. It has come as an awful shock, having worked so closely with Laura over the last year since we agreed to publish her third novel. Just days before the release of that powerful and beautiful story, Lying Perfectly Still, it is deeply sad to know that she will not see this important project through to completion. I know that the Fly on the Wall family of authors will be equally saddened to hear this news. Please know that I value each and every one of you more than you can know. The best way that I can honour Laura is to ensure that her work is heard. With a voice of great literary quality, integrity and generosity, Laura’s work has lifted underrepresented and marginalised voices, with empathy and respect for their stories. She had hugely important things to say and I intend to make sure her voice remains present. Rest in peace, Laura, and God bless you. Isabelle Fly on the Wall Press
