A community that bridges the gap between science and business - powering Oxford networks in AI, Life Sciences, & Space
About us
The Founders & Funders Foundation fosters a community that brings notable Oxford alumni, founders, and funders in conversation with researchers and executive students at the coalface of science and business. We offer: - Keynote events: The keynotes are science business founders and funders, some Oxford-based and others in Boston, many alumni, but mostly drawn in from the wider ecosystem, such as leading experts and alumni based in Silicon Valley, and beyond. - A unique community and ecosystem network: An integrated access point for science-entrepreneurship, addressing venture building, funding, mentorship, as well as academia-industry collaboration. The community facilitates peer-to-peer knowledge exchanges between entrepreneurial peers that are starting or have started a (science-)venture, notable alumni, and relevant ecosystem stakeholders. info@foundersfunders.tech

Last week Founders & Funders was at Hult International Business School for a panel discussion on the early stages of venture building: how to validate your business ideas, leverage networks and ecosystem resources effectively, assemble a strong founding team, and secure initial investors. 🎓 David M Lehmann (host) - Family business and innovation scholar at Hult, Stanford University, and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford 💭 Bartek Ogonowski - LEVRA: Building the future of education in the workplace. 🤝 Christiaan de Koning, PhD - Oxford's Founders & Funders: network of 3000+ science & tech leaders. Earlier this week, I was delighted to welcome Christiaan de Koning, PhD (Founders & Funders) and Bartek Ogonowski (LEVRA) to the Hult International Business School postgraduate campus in London. As part of our Hult Entrepreneurship Aperitivo event series, we discussed how students can validate business ideas, how to leverage networks and ecosystem resources, build a strong founding team, and potentially get first investors on board. Thank you for being so generous in sharing your insights with our students and alumni! Ian Dougal Daniel Rukare David Sheehan Roberta Ruffilli Emily Sanchez Suley Dembele

Great article by Raluca Ciobancan and Sara Foster at Founders Factory on traits they see in successful founders. They also include some good examples. Definitely worth a read! 👇
📍 How to spot a high-potential founder Over the last several years, we’ve invested in 10+ founders every year to join our Venture Studio, to lead the build of one of our new venture concepts. So before their business idea is fully formed, let alone seeing any early traction, how do we identify successful founders? In our latest article, Raluca Ciobancan and Sara Foster from our Global Talent team share seven traits that they believe make successful founder investments—from high risk appetite through to a knack for finding shortcuts. Also featured are a number of founders who display these traits, including Louise Croft (Ogma), David Tejs Jørring (HealthKey), and Svilen & Konstantin R. (Dronamics) Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/egStxGr5 henry lane fox | George Northcott | Brent Hoberman | Claire Morris | Lee Bernasconi | Emma-Jane Willan | David Hickson | Damian Routley | Simon Lovick | Laura Moross | Olivia Brooks | Louis Warner | Olly Betts | Levi Young #founder #foundertraits #founderskills #venturestudio #preseed

"You’d struggle to deny the city’s timeless beauty. Even battered by November winds, the limestone buildings and ancient trees seem to sparkle with a self‑assurance of their own." This is a love letter to Oxford which more than one University of Oxford alumnus will be reading this weekend with fierce approval and the recall of memories from decades before. Though I'm not sure I could pull off the fashion suggestions, I can certainly recommend the Lamb & Flag pub on St Giles', saved and restored by Dave Norwood and a group of modern Inklings, and now a venue for reading groups, discussions on artificial intelligence, poetry, music and more than one lock-in. As recent Oxford alumna Grace Clover recalls in her Financial Times piece, "Studying at Oxford is an experience of extremes. There’s the isolation of sitting within a fortress of books with three essays to write in five days; then the constant socialising, as everyone tries to fit six months’ worth of activities into an eight-week term." "There’s the drudgery of the library grind that’s inexplicably tied to the joy of spending a tutorial trying to make sense of the sexual dynamics of The Trial with one of the world’s leading experts on Kafka." "Meanwhile, the astounding, thrilling weight of history: it’s widely rumoured that Thomas Hardy wrote much of Jude the Obscure in my favourite local pub, the Lamb & Flag on St Giles’ street..." "More importantly, Oxford is a place where people care: about the things they’re reading, about the people in their lives, about the world around them." Thank you, Grace, and welcome to Oxford's wonderful alumni community. https://lnkd.in/e3ig8qED
