As we kick off the #16DaysofActivism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), #GAGE is proud to shine a spotlight on its cross-country research on #GBV, #childmarriage, and #femalegenitalmutilation/cutting(FGM/C), under the first powerful theme #TowardsBeijing+30. This campaign will bring to the forefront: - The pervasive risks faced by girls in diverse contexts, including Ethiopia's #Tigray and #Afar regions, #Cox’sBazar, and #Syrianrefugee communities in Jordan, where #GBV remains widespread. - Pathways to ending #GBV, with an emphasis on adolescent-responsive policies and legal frameworks that promote gender equality and freedom from violence. - Key research findings and real-life testimonies that empower us all to advocate for change. #GAGE calls for a whole-of-society approach, including strong policy frameworks, dedicated funding, and support for girl-andyouth-led organizations to prevent and eliminate #violence against women and girls. #16Days #EndGBV #EndViolence #OrangeTheWorld #NoExcuse #HumanRightsDay #BeijingPlus30

We're the largest global study on adolescents, exploring what works to empower girls & boys through policy & programming
About us
Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) is a decade long (2015-2026) mixed methods longitudinal research and evaluation study. It follows the lives of 20,000 adolescents in six low- and middle-income countries in Africa (Ethiopia and Rwanda), Asia (Bangladesh and Nepal) and the Middle East (Jordan and Lebanon). GAGE is generating evidence on ‘what works’ to enable adolescent girls and boys to emerge from poverty and fast-track social change for young people, their families and communities. It aims to explore what strategies are most effective in transforming girls’ and boys’ lives at specific junctures in adolescence. The GAGE consortium, managed by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), includes 35 partner organisations from around the world known for their expertise in research, policy and programming in the fields of adolescence, gender and social inclusion. GAGE is funded by UK aid from the UK government.

Reflecting on World Children’s Day 2024: Insights from Nepal As we commemorate World Children’s Day 2024, it's a good moment to reflect on the insights shared in previous years, in the context of ongoing challenges faced by children worldwide. This blog post authored by Sudeep Uprety in 2017, addresses the critical post-disaster efforts in Nepal. In this blog, Uprety highlights the urgent need for targeted support for adolescents, with a particular focus on girls, who are often disproportionately affected in crisis situations. He underscores the importance of implementing sustainable, evidence-based interventions that enhance resilience and uphold the rights of all children in humanitarian contexts. This article remains relevant as we continue to navigate the complexities of children's rights in the face of adversity. Read now: https://ow.ly/78Xl50U296j #WorldChildrensDay

🌍✨ Listening to the Future: Empowering Adolescents through Research ✨🌍 On this #WorldChildrensDay, we embrace the theme “Listen to the Future” by focusing on the voices of the next generation. As we roll out the #GAGEEndline Qualitative Training in #Ethiopia, we are committed to deeply understanding the lives, needs, and aspirations of adolescents through the power of #mixedmethods data. 📚💬 Our newly designed endline qualitative tools are crafted to explore the complexities of adolescent lives, ensuring that both #girls and #boys are heard in meaningful ways. By building strong, trusting relationships between our researchers and the young people we engage with, we ensure that their voices shape the future of the communities they live in. 🤝👧👦 Through our longitudinal design, we are learning about the realities which shape the lives of #Ethiopian #youngpeople, ensuring that their perspectives are at the heart of policy and programme development. 💡🌱 #ListenToTheFuture #WorldChildrensDay #GAGEResearch #AdolescentVoices #EmpoweringYouth #GenderEquality #ResearchForChange #YouthAspirations #ChildrensRights #Ethiopia #AdolescentResearch Nicola Jones Kassahun Tilahun Laterite Guday Nardos Chuta workneh Yadete Guday Emirie

Spotlight on: Concluding reflections: Towards an agenda for policy, practice and research. The concluding chapter of "Adolescents in Humanitarian Crisis: Displacement, Gender and Social Inequalities" explores key takeaways for policy, practice, and future research to ensure that no adolescent is left behind. The authors emphasise the importance of addressing the humanitarian-development nexus, particularly in protracted displacement scenarios. Critical areas for action include investing in multi-sectoral and integrated interventions that consider age- and gender-responsive social protection, enhancing access to quality education, and promoting gender-based violence prevention services. The chapter also underscores the need for ongoing research to better understand the unique challenges faced by adolescents in these settings and to promote their visibility in policy discussions.
