  • We were lucky enough to meet with the First Minister John Swinney this morning at the #SCVOGathering where we highlighted the need for more volunteers, to enable the 10,000 girls on our waiting list to access the invaluable experiences provided by Girlguiding Scotland. We also gave him a copy of our Girls’ Attitudes Survey and discussed the many pressures girls in Scotland face today.

  • Girlguiding Scotland, the leading Scottish charity for girls and young women, has said that the Scottish Government’s decision to continue with a PVG fee waiver for volunteers is “welcome” news. A spokesperson said: “We welcome the decision to continue with the PVG fee waiver. It sends a positive message about the value of volunteering and shows that the significant benefits the sector brings both to the economy and society are recognised. "Girlguiding Scotland supports almost 40,000 girls and young women and just under 9,000 amazing volunteers. Without our volunteers, girls would miss out on play, adventure, personal development and friendship. "Yearly, we have over 1,000 new volunteers who require a PVG. The introduction of a fee would have had a substantial negative financial impact on already stretched voluntary sector organisations, including Girlguiding Scotland. "We have over 8000 girls waiting to join who are unable to access the benefits of guiding due to a lack of volunteers. The assurance that the fee waiver will continue will allow the organisation to tackle this emerging issue.” Disclosure Scotland SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations)

  • Lead the future with our Transformational Leadership Project! We want all our volunteers to have a great experience and today we’re launching a new project to help make that happen! Evidence shows that our volunteers who oversee guiding activities in their local area (known as commissioners) don’t always enjoy their roles and they need additional support to be able to do them effectively. Our Transformational Leadership Project aims to address these issues and ensure that we have a pipeline of volunteers ready to take on commissioner roles in the future so that we have the leadership we need at all levels. Across 2025 there will be a range of pilot project including new resources, events and communication campaigns, with lots of opportunities for members to get involved.
