We were sorry to read that Roy Prosterman, founder and Chairman Emeritus of Landesa, passed on 27th February, a few months short of his 90th birthday. A visionary social entrepreneur, Roy's actions and courage led him to devote his life to empowering the world’s poorest to improve their lives through secure land rights. Indeed, land reforms that Landesa has worked to foster and implement have helped reduce poverty, hunger, and land conflicts for hundreds of millions of people in scores of countries worldwide. Watch our #Global20 interview with Landesa's former CDO Mark Ruffo (link below) to learn more about how they are uniquely positioned to help 400 million rural women realise the benefits of strength and land rights by 2027. https://lnkd.in/eRytH2T5 #philanthropy #talkingphilanthropy #landrights #landesa

Why philanthropy in Asia isn’t just about charity, it’s about responsibility. At Talking Philanthropy 2024, Ruth Shapiro, Chief Executive of Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) explained how business leaders across the region are reshaping the sector, embedding philanthropy within corporate structures rather than treating it as a separate endeavour. Unlike Western philanthropy, which often operates independently, Asian donors work closely with governments, aligning their giving with national priorities. Yet, challenges persist. While Asia is home to vast wealth, transparency issues, restrictive policies, and scepticism toward local nonprofits hinder the full potential of philanthropic impact. The Doing Good Index, developed by CAPS, highlights these roadblocks and provides a roadmap for unlocking more effective giving. With Asia’s rapid economic growth, the question isn’t whether philanthropy will expand, it’s how to ensure it’s done right. Watch Dr Shapiro's full interview (link below) to see how these dynamics are transforming the sector and what lessons the world can learn from Asia’s evolving philanthropic landscape. https://lnkd.in/eHMbfVvX #philanthropy #asia #talkingphilanthropy
