This week's edition of the hashtag #SSA roundup: This week we looked at the challenging negotiations at #COP29 in Baku, where there has been little sign that deep divisions can be bridged to achieve desperately needed progress on climate change. Negotiators however still hope to strike some deals that will keep hope alive of avoiding the most catastrophic levels of global warming https://lnkd.in/g678hXGk In #euros, we examined what stabilising swap spreads mean for issuers when they kick start funding for 2025 in January, and the hurdles they must cross to find a clearing level https://lnkd.in/gAVu9AV4 The week’s biggest trade – away from the European Union’s – came from the International Development Association, and we spoke to Andrea Dore about the $3.5bn deal that restarted the #dollar SSA market since the November 5 US election https://lnkd.in/guvHhm5Q Meanwhile, we’ve been busy getting the GlobalCapital Review 2024 | Outlook 2025 special report ready for the printers. “In the UK, the credit enhancement levels are actually higher in the covered market than for RMBS — usually it’s the other way around.” — ELENA BORTOLOTTI, managing director, global head of covered bonds and head of structured solutions EME, Barclays Investment Bank A year filled with elections encouraged UK banks to do their covered bond funding early. The election in their own country passed without incident in July but there was still much for them to consider for the rest of the year and beyond — from fresh government policy, to rising demand for mortgages, and sources of liquidity. In September 2024, GlobalCapital gathered senior funding officials from major UK lenders to discuss all of this and more. Read for free: https://lnkd.in/em79MbtZ A special thank you to our roundtable participants: -ELENA BORTOLOTTI, managing director, global head of covered bonds and head of structured solutions EME, Barclays Investment Bank - Tom Burgess, managing director, head of UK FIG DCM, Barclays Investment Bank - Fiona Chan, head of principal funding and securitization, Barclays Investment Bank - Richard Merrett CA, head of secured funding, Nationwide Building Society - Ian Perrins, CFA, treasury debt capital markets manager, NatWest Group - Kate Sinclair, head of wholesale funding, TSB Bank Moderator: Toby Fildes, managing director, GlobalCapital This Special Report is brought to you in partnership with Barclays Investment Bank #capitalmarkets #coveredbonds #sterling #UKbanks #issuers

In this week's edition of the Corporate Bond Wrap: Europe’s high grade corporate bond market was booming this week, with bulging books and spreads hurtling tighter during bookbuilding. Volkswagen was the standout deal, drumming up more than €11bn of orders. “Volkswagen’s demand was an absolute joke,” said a DCM banker off the deal. “Just off the charts.” The combination of investors sitting on a lot of cash and the rapidly approaching end of year has made the primary highly accommodative for borrowers. Now, some corners of the market think that the party might run longer than it usually does, with trades possible right up to the Christmas break. December deals on the cards as IG corporate borrowers meet roaring demand: https://lnkd.in/eaEzuzRB In #dollars, the Trump trade lives on with spreads tightening across the board and issuers taking advantage. Mercedes-Benz continued the run of auto companies raising debt to print a $2.45bn four part trade. Corporates swamp bond market with Trump trades: https://lnkd.in/e5qeS_-z #corporatebonds
