We are proud to see our board member Sue Liburd MBE DL FRSA, taking a central role in Black History Month UK's "Changing Narratives" campaign. Sue, born in 1962 to Windrush-generation parents from Nevis and Jamaica, grew up in a military family influenced by her father's Royal Air Force service, which shaped her understanding of family values, racial, and gender biases. She initially pursued a career in mental health nursing before becoming a midwife. In 1987, she transitioned to the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, where her work extended to promoting diversity and inclusion. After leaving the military, Sue became a strategic advisor, contributing to the Veterans Advisory Board and working in health services. She also co-founded the British West India Regiment’s Heritage Trust to highlight the contributions of Black soldiers in British history and served as Director of the National Windrush Museum, advocating for the recognition of the Windrush generation's legacy. We are providing resources this month to help 💛 World Suicide Prevention Day took place earlier this month, with the theme “Changing the narrative on suicide” This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Changing the narrative on suicide is about transforming how we perceive this complex issue and shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. ⬇ Below is a Video and Article on The Department of Health and Social Care's Suicide Prevention Strategy for England: 2023-2028, presented by Verity M. at our National Suicide Prevention Conference. https://lnkd.in/eRmDke5p

Back again at 'The Supporting Vulnerable Tenants in Social Housing Conference 2024', hosted by Government Events. This time, I focused on the key areas critical to supporting #refugees and #migrants and the importance of thoroughly assessing and understanding the needs of newly arrived communities. With 16 years of experience in this sector, we’ve implemented various models that have yielded different results, and I was glad to share some of these approaches during the session. If you're interested in learning more, feel free to reach out. Thank you to the team for having me back this year!
