  • We don't sell oak windows. Here's why... 1️⃣ Moisture Absorption Oak easily absorbs moisture, leading to swelling and warping. This makes it less durable, especially in wet conditions. 2️⃣ Decay Resistance While oak has some natural resistance, it's not as robust as alternatives like Accoya and Red Grandis, which are better suited for damp environments. 3️⃣ Maintenance Oak demands more upkeep when used outdoors. Regular treatments with sealants or paints are needed to prevent damage from moisture penetration. 4️⃣ Pest Attraction Susceptible to pests such as termites and wood-boring beetles, oak can suffer further damage outdoors without proper treatment. 5️⃣ Discoloration Exposure to moisture can cause oak to develop dark stains and mildew, which significantly alter its appearance over time. • Would you rather see our historic buildings evolve tastefully, or remain in a relentless cycle of mounting costs and dilapidation? Through good intentions, some conservation officers stipulate that original glazing bars remain or that replacements should have pass through bars. Pass through bars fall short on every measure: ✔️ Smaller panes and additional glazing bars increase thermal bridging, making windows far less efficient. ✔️ Glazing Compatibility: Energy-efficient glass like vacuum glazing requires deeper rebates, which traditional pass-through bars cannot accommodate without altering their appearance. ✔️ Long-Term Costs: Regular repairs or inefficient solutions cost far more in the long run than a thoughtfully updated design. Now, imagine that you are a listed property owner and you painstakingly: Follow the guidance Spend a fortune And after that your home is STILL be cold, draughty and noisy. Would you do it again? The WORST option for these important parts of history has to be letting them crumble because preserving them is too expensive or difficult. By insisting on outdated methods, we risk losing the very buildings we want to protect. Isn’t it time we evolved our approach to safeguarding heritage? We’re not advocating for any old nonsense to be allowed in historic buildings (don’t worry, PVC will never make the cut!) And we also agree that plant-on or astragal bars are visually similar enough to respect the original look. That's why we have spent a lot of product development time (and money!) creating a solution. The efficiency of modern glazing and you'd have to look really hard to see the difference from pass though bars. All while keeping these buildings alive and functional for years to come. • You can get cheaper than us, but can you buy better? To decide, you need to understand performance. • Are you adding to the greenwashing culture? You may feel virtuous to buy from companies who say they are sustainable, but what are the consequences of letting companies get away with vague, unsupported claims? 🌍 Slower progress toward net zero: Without accountability, companies face no pressure to improve. ❌ False confidence: Customers think they’re making a difference when they’re not. 💸 Wasted resources: Time and money are spent on "sustainable" products with no tangible impact. 💔 Damaged trust: Exposed greenwashing undermines trust in genuinely sustainable businesses. We refuse to be part of this problem. We’ve calculated the cradle-to-grave carbon impact of every product we make using the BRE LINA tool, and here’s the result: EVERY SINGLE ONE is CARBON NEGATIVE over its lifetime 🎉 Now, let's help you picture how much carbon our products save... Carbon is measured in Kilograms of CO2 Equivalent (kgCO₂e), which can be tricky to picture. For context: 📱 1,000 kgCO₂e = 121,643 smartphones charged 🚗 1,000 kgCO₂e = 9,600 km travelled by car ✈️ 1,000 kgCO₂e = 3,500 km flown by plane 🚆 1,000 kgCO₂e = 71,500 km travelled by train Look below to see how much carbon is saved by three randomly selected windows and doors from our range. We're not stopping here either and are ALWAYS looking at ways to improve. So, which would you prefer? 1️⃣ Lip-service and vague guesswork from other companies? 2️⃣ Genuinely moving toward net zero with Gowercroft? #SustainabilityMatters #CarbonNegative #NetZero #GowercroftJoinery

  • Just because a company is based in Britain, does that mean their products are made here? Not always. We’ve noticed that some UK-based companies act like they manufacture in Britain but actually source their windows and doors from abroad. So how can you tell if products are genuinely Made in the UK? ✔️ Ask Where They’re Manufactured: If the answer isn’t clear or sounds evasive, dig deeper. ✔️ Look for Made in Britain - official Certification: This guarantees the product has been manufactured in the UK, not just stock-piled and installed here. ✔️ Check Lead Times: Super-fast turnarounds on bespoke products can be a red flag: it’s often stock imported from abroad. ✔️ Visit Their Factory: A genuine UK manufacturer will usually welcome the opportunity to show you where their products are made. Every window and door that we sell is crafted in Alfreton by our talented, local Gowercroft team. Why does that matter? ✅ Accountability: Direct contact with the people who make your products. ✅ Accountability: When you buy from a manufacturer like us, you’re dealing directly with the people who design, craft, and stand by our windows. ✅ Faster Resolutions: If something goes wrong, it's solved quickly with no passing the buck. ✅ Boosting Local Economies: Choosing UK-manufactured products supports jobs and skills development right here at home. ✅ Superior Quality: Products crafted by skilled teams with a focus on precision and durability, not mass-produced for speed and cheapness. ✅ Innovation: Constant product development, from energy-efficient vacuum glazing to precision-engineered timber windows; giving you the BEST windows and doors money can buy. We’re proud to be part of the Made in Britain family. Can everyone else say the same? #MadeInBritain #UKManufacturing #IntegrityInJoinery #GowercroftJoinery

  • No greenwashing to see here! This time last week, we made the other nominees green with envy by taking home the BWF Sustainability Award 2024! 🏆 How? Unlike many companies who claim to be sustainable, we back it up with cradle-to-grave Life Cycle Assessments on every single product. Shockingly, the only other company we know of doing this is in Scandinavia. Our sustainability claims are EVIDENCE-BACKED, rather than vague promises or empty buzzwords. We’re proud to share the results and they are available on all of our Environmental Product Declarations. From carbon-negative products to turning waste into energy, we’re proving that quality craftsmanship and sustainability go hand in hand. Want to know more? • We didn't do Black Friday last year... And we're not doing it this year either. In fact, you will NEVER see huge price drops from us. Because we're unapologetically THE brat of the window industry. Here's what that means: ❌ No artificially inflated price tags with deceptive drops ✅Sensible prices first time ❌ Pile 'em high watch 'em fly mentality ✅ All our windows and doors are made to order ❌ No selling you things that you don't need with too good to be true prices ✅In depth consultation about your requirements ❌ No cheap products that don't last ✅Windows and doors with 10 year, no quibble, no maintenance warranties (that last MUCH longer) In a world of instant gratification and fast fashion, we are anything but. Our products are crafted to last because we want our world to last too. 🌍 So, instead of deals, here’s how we deal with sustainability: ✅ 2009: Adoption of Accoya Timber Introduced Accoya for its 60+ year lifespan and low environmental impact. ✅ 2010: Wood Shavings Initiative Repurposed wood waste into cattle bedding, fertiliser, and heat—eliminating landfill use. ✅ 2013: Installation of Biomass Heaters Replaced fossil fuels by utilising wood waste for heat. ✅ 2014: Introduction of Red Grandis Timber A fast-growing, sustainable alternative to exotic hardwoods with a 50+ year lifespan. ✅ 2019: Transition to LandVac Vacuum Glass U-values of 0.4 W/m²K for incredible energy efficiency and durability. ✅ 2021: First Life Cycle Assessments Collaborated with Derby University to prove our products are carbon-negative and identify areas for improvement. ✅ 2023: Energy-Efficient Compressor System Cut CO₂ emissions by 20,000 kg annually by upgrading factory systems. And we’re not stopping there! Our plans for the future: 🌞 Solar Panels to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy 🌿 Local Rewilding to restore biodiversity 🏭 Whole Business Carbon Footprint Assessment to optimise every aspect of our manufacturing Quality. Integrity. Sustainability. And rebellious in a good way! #GreenFriday #SustainabilityInCraftsmanship #GowercroftJoinery #Brat #BlackFriday
