Starting the week on a positive note - for the first time in 150 years, salmon have been seen upstream in the Levern Water! This is the result of a project to remove the Crossmill Weir in 2023, which was the last remaining barrier to migratory fish on the Levern Water. Removing the weir opened up an additional 4km stretch of river for salmon to spawn, and we’re delighted to see their return, which will also encourage greater diversity in the local ecosystem. This project was delivered in partnership with East Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Environment Protection Agency, with support from the local community and the THE CLYDE RIVER FOUNDATION, and you can read more about it: https://lnkd.in/gi5wm4Mi Funding was provided by SEPA's Water Environment Fund and the European Open Rivers Programme, and work was carried out by AmcoGiffen.

📢Have your say We’re working with CERT - Clackmannanshire Economic Regeneration Trust - to develop plans for Gartmorn Dam Country Park and Nature Reserve. Gartmorn Dam is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Local Nature Reserve and a great place for both people and wildlife to convene in beautiful surroundings. We are surveying local residents and visitors to help us better understand how people feel about its current offering, and inform any changes that could take place on site. If that’s you, you have until 31st March to give us your thoughts. You find the survey and more information about this project here: https://lnkd.in/e9gPJWkn

Thank you to everyone who joined Pauline and Karen yesterday Dundee Centre for Water Law, Policy & Science (under the auspices of UNESCO)! It was great to have so many people in attendance to hear about our work to improve Scotland’s environments for people and for nature.
Thank you very much to Pauline Silverman and Karen Sutherland from the Green Action Trust who provided a brilliant talk this afternoon! We learnt about a number of projects the team are working on and how collaboration is key to transformational change and that nature and the environment we live in is not only critical for biodiversity, but for inclusive sustainable growth and our health and wellbeing. 🍃 🏞️ You can learn more about their work here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e7X_aBdp #DundeeWater #BlueGreenInfrastructure #CommunityCollaboration

Interested in hearing more about the benefits that placemaking and community wealth building can bring to designing and delivering blue-green infrastructure? Green Action Trust's Pauline Silverman and Karen Sutherland will be presenting at the Dundee Centre for Water Law, Policy & Science (under the auspices of UNESCO) tomorrow. More details on the seminar and how to join can be found below 👇 #placemaking #communitywealthbuilding #bluegreeninfrastructure
📣 Seminar 📣 CWLPS is hosting Pauline Silverman and Karen Sutherland from the Green Action Trust, who will be presenting on 'Our Dear Green Place: A multi-benefit place approach to designing and delivering blue-green infrastructure'. 📅 Wednesday 8 January ⏲️ 13:00 Please contact water@dundee.ac.uk if you wish to join online! Often environmental improvements or interventions are seen not only as a ‘nice to have’ but often as a negative drain on resources on a capital and revenue front. With Scotland one of the worst countries in the world for biodiversity loss, and the trend in climatic events, there needs to be a concerted drive to ensure we protect, improve and use, nature to it’s best effect. Place making and community wealth building presents a more progressive and cohesive model that allows multiple benefits to be built around interventions. We will present on Green Action Trust’s role in the Central Scotland Green Network and also on a couple of ambitious collaborative projects we are leading on: The Leven Programme and another, one of many, emerging opportunities in Glasgow. We will show that collaboration is key to transformational change and that nature and the environment we live in is not only critical for biodiversity, but for inclusive sustainable growth and our health and wellbeing.

Halting and reversing biodiversity decline is essential for the long-term health of people and nature. This Q&A with our own Louisa Maddison shows how enhancing habitats in accessible greenspace can benefit local wildlife, while improving people's connection to nature.
Making liveable places in the CSGN involves improving access to quality greenspace for people, while restoring and creating habitats that help tackle the biodiversity crisis. Towards the end of last year, this project in Shotts Nature Park, supported by North Lanarkshire's Environmental Key Fund, delivered on both fronts. In our video, Green Action Trust's Louisa Maddison explains how the project evolved and increased wetland habitat to boost the park's biodiversity and improve people's connection to nature. #wetlands #biodiversity #greenspace

There are currently lots of exciting developments taking place in Easterhouse, Glasgow. Recently, we were delighted to host a workshop that brought together many of the different organisations working in the area to encourage collaboration and cohesion. The workshop was the first step in an exciting journey, and brought to light opportunities to work together to develop green infrastructure that will benefit the local community, boost biodiversity and improve connectivity to the Seven Lochs Wetland Park. This greenspace enhancement project delivered major access improvements and biodiversity gain to the local community. It was a pleasure to be a part of it.
Another key project delivered this year was Faifley Knowes. A £500k project undertaken for West Dunbartonshire Council to develop a 19 hectare #greenspace with accessibility improvements. Greenspace enhancements, like new and upgraded paths, new steel bridges and tree planting, have helped to make Faifley Knowes a more accessible, biodiverse and enjoyable space. Watch our video to see the transition for yourself 👇 More information on this project and others like it can be found via our website: https://lnkd.in/gK-JMvB4 #greenspaceenhancement #biodiversity #csgn NatureScot

Work has started in Grangemouth to boost Rannoch Park's climate resilience and increase biodiversity, whilst making it a more welcoming and enjoyable space for the local community. Works are due to be completed in spring, so watch this space!
If you're local to Rannoch Park in Grangemouth, you may have noticed some works taking place over the past few weeks. We are working with Falkirk Council and Green Action Trust to bring about some changes to make the park more climate resilient and make some changes that will benefit people and biodiversity, too. Thanks for your patience whilst the contractors carry out these works and we will keep you updated on progress here. #rannochpark #Grangemouth #works # The National Lottery Heritage Fund
