A mental health charity based on an organic farm, supporting people for up to one year, with recovery through activity.

About us

Growing Well is a targeted and specialist mental health intervention and champion recovery through outdoor activity in our Cumbrian market gardens. We’re a mental health day service that accepts self-referrals and GP/healthcare referrals from individuals experiencing a level of mental ill health that requires ongoing support. Growing Well offers activity as a powerful alternative (or accompaniment) to talking therapy. People come and participate in our organic market gardening activity on one, regular day per week, with therapeutic support from trained staff. We are based within a 6-acre organic farm and kitchen on the outskirts of Kendal at Low Sizergh Barn, and also at Tebay Services Northbound. We focus on three vital objectives: • Building emotional resilience • Developing vocational and life skills • Supporting healthier, more active living

PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES…. …the idiom involves stones but in our case it was storms. 💨 ☔️ 🌬️⚡️🌪️🌫️ Thankfully (let’s chuck in a meteorological idiom as well) every cloud has a silver lining. 💫 That came in the shape of the amazing William King and team. Storm damage to Growing Well Cumbria in Egremont on Sunday night led to a lot of smashed glass and some costly structural damage too, rendering the site unsafe and some of our beneficiary activities needing to be postponed. Thanks to Will and team, tower scaffolding was brought in today and all glass removed, frames put back in place and everything made temporarily safe whilst we raise funds and/or find support for a long-term solution. This man and his company have been unwavering in their support and generosity for our charity and I just want to say a huge thank you from all of us here. With your help, we’ve got the show back on the road quickly and safely, and we couldn’t have done that without you. 🙏

Be Good! and if you can't be good be Wonderful.

Great to be back at Growing Well Cumbria today for their official Launch (wearing a different hat). The beds we made with colleagues from #MottMacDonald are looking good. There was tremendous support from across industry recognising the contribution the NDA have made to this great project. There are MANY WAYS for individuals and companies to get involved and help support the work Growing Well does which is front line support to help people and take the pressure of NHS services. #getinvolved #Cumbria #Egremont #socialvalue

  • Growing Well West Cumbria - Official Launch Ceremony, 1.10.24 We were absolutely bowled over by the support shown for our official launch ceremony at Growing Well West Cumbria, which took place in the sunshine yesterday (three months later than originally billed, due to the period of political sensitivity surrounding the General Election back in early summer). A huge thanks to everyone who attended and everyone who has supported this site so far. Big thanks to David Peattie FREng HonFNucI, CEO of The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, for doing the honours and cutting the ribbon on our largest glasshouse, to declare us officially open. Thanks also to our major project funders The National Lottery Community Fund, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Copeland Community Fund, Cumberland Council and The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority for making this vision a possibility. Thanks also to guests Marc Goodwin, town crier, for bringing some real pomp to the occasion, Josh MacAlister MP for his continuing endorsement of our work. Everyone there yesterday has helped or contributed to this project in some way and we are forever grateful for your support. Big thanks, also, to our brilliant trustees, staff, volunteers and friends of Growing Well for making yesterday an occasion to remember. We are proud to formalise our commitment to West Cumbria and support mental health need in the area now and for years to come, AND supply the local communities with the freshest, most beautiful produce, grown right here in Egremont! #mentalhealth #westcumbria #horticulture #socialvalue #economicactivity #partnerships #communities #celebration #launch #pesticidefree #greenspaces #LandSkills #nature #sunshine #wellbeing #cumbria #thankyou

  • A HUGE thanks to the 25 walkers from Hill Dickinson Health Lawyers and Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust who yesterday embarked on their 'Cumbria 5 Peaks Challenge' to fundraise for our #20for20 campaign. They boxed off Rossett Pike, Allen Crags, Great End and Ill Crag, finishing off with an ascent of Scafell Pike - the highest mountain in England. This was the team first thing yesterday morning, all smiles and full of energy despite having travelled from as far away as Manchester, Warrington and Blackpool 😀 So far they have raised an amazing £2,725 from their fundraising efforts but it's not too late to support them via the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eFvictEN
