🌟 Exciting news for our region!
Our region has been chosen as one of only eight areas in England to receive trailblazer funding to help more young people to ‘earn and learn’ as part of the Government’s new Get Britain Working White Paper.
Yesterday, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Liz Kendall, visited Peterborough College to unveil the Get Britain Working White Paper, a £240 million initiative to tackle economic inactivity and create life-changing opportunities for young people and adults.
As one of only eight trailblazer areas in England, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will receive funding to help young people at risk of falling out of education or employment. This investment will support skills training, work experience, and pathways into careers, building on the Combined Authority’s ongoing efforts to break down barriers and unlock potential.
The White Paper also includes a new Youth Guarantee, ensuring every 18-21-year-old in England has access to quality training, education, or employment opportunities.
In addition, the Connect to Work programme will focus on supporting economically inactive adults, such as those with disabilities or health challenges, with a tailored, collaborative approach to employment and skills development.
Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, captured the significance of this initiative:
“The ‘Get Britain Working’ package will be transformational in breaking down barriers to good quality employment. Through local knowledge and partnerships, we can deliver opportunities that truly change lives, providing access to education, training, and work – and the independence and
purpose that come with it.”
This funding is a major step forward in creating a lifelong learning culture, connecting individuals with opportunities to grow, thrive, and contribute to our economy and communities.
