Today the HPA have published a new report projecting the future domestic heat pump workforce. The report covers the entire workforce required for 600,000 heat pump installations by 2028 and 1.6 million by 2035. Importantly, whilst heat pump installer training rates are growing, there's still a significant gap between the number of trained individuals and those actively installing🔧 For the details of the project and more key findings, read the report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJPrYtUx Interested in the methodology? Today the Climate Change Committee has published its advice to Government on how to meet Carbon Budget 7 which covers the period of 2038 to 2042. The advice stresses the critical role heat pumps will play in reaching the UK's net zero targets, alongside recommending several actions to increase their deployment, accessibility to consumers and tackle costs. Today eight trade associations, representing over 4,000 businesses in the clean heating and energy efficiency sector, have written to the Chancellor to call on her to allocate the full £13.2bn, as pledged in the Labour Party Manifesto, to support the upgrading of 5 million homes over the course of the parliament. This investment is key to meeting the UK's recently updated Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement, legally binding carbon reduction commitments, and 2030 fuel poverty target. The clean heating and energy efficiency sector is ready to deliver—but long-term funding certainty is essential to unlocking investment in UK skills and manufacturing. Without this investment, the UK risks sending damaging and confused signals to investors, risking growth, jobs, and energy security. We call on the Government to publish a clear decarbonisation strategy, long-term funding commitments, and supporting policy to give the sector the certainty needed to invest in the UK market. New European Heat Pump Association data shows that heat pump sales fell by an average of 23% across 13 European countries in 2024. The EHPA have identified 3 reasons for the decline: 1️⃣ A change in Government funding and support 2️⃣ The cost-of-living crisis 3️⃣ The low subsidised price of gas The UK bucked this trend, but the European market highlights the importance of policy certainty to support sustained growth. See HPA Chief Executive Charlotte Lee’s reaction below, along with the key facts and figures. Last week, the HPA hosted an Executive member workshop with officials from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to discuss the Warm Homes Plan and the longer-term vision for the electrification of heat. As the UK transitions to low-carbon heating, heat pumps will play a central role in delivering efficient solutions for homes across the country. Discussions explored key factors for accelerating heat decarbonisation, including consumer engagement, green finance options, installer skills, and area-based switching. With the much anticipated Warm Homes Plan set to be published later this year, it was great to input into considerations. A big thank you to the Clean Heat team at DESNZ and our Executive members for their insights and feedback. We’re looking forward to what’s next! #heatpumps #warmhomesplan

📈 Record growth for UK Heat Pumps in 2024! ➡️Nearly 100,000 heat pumps were sold last year, up 63% from 2023 ➡️Over 9,000 individuals completed a recognised heat pump qualification, up by 15% Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh MP commented on the growth: “It’s fantastic to see huge progress on heat pump installations, with thousands of people now benefiting from clean heating in their homes. We are keeping up this momentum by almost doubling the budget for our Boiler Upgrade Scheme in the next financial year, giving more families £7,500 off the cost. At the same time, our Heat Training Grant will have provided a further 10,000 opportunities by April to train up heat pump and heat network professionals, supporting skilled jobs across the country.” Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eSHfjH8m #heatpumps #heatpumpsUK #heatpumpsales
