A pioneering milestone and one that paves the way for our own carbon capture and storage project at Padeswood cement works in north Wales. Here we are looking to capture up to 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually and start producing evoZero carbon captured cement by 2029. 👀 Watch this space… #HelloFuture #HeidelbergMaterialsUK #CCS #SustainableConstruction #cement #NetZero
Brevik CCS Project Reaches Mechanical Completion ✔️ To decarbonise cement and concrete, we need to join forces, because only together can groundbreaking projects be realised – such as Brevik CCS, which reached its mechanical completion today. A significant step towards full operation of the world’s first CCS facility in the cement industry, and also on Heidelberg Materials‘ path towards net zero! Our dedicated local team, together with the colleagues in our global Competence Center Cement and committed partners, has worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone. “Mechanical completion” marks the point at which all major mechanical components have been installed and the system is ready for testing. Having reached this point, we are now entering the commissioning phase and look forward to ramping up the plant to full operation. As the first project of its kind in the cement sector, Brevik CCS is an important blueprint for Heidelberg Materials’ subsequent initiatives.

Twelve members of our north concrete and aggregates team spent the day volunteering at Jamie's Farm, helping feed the animals, collect eggs and clear a two-acre woodland. A hearty beef stew and dumplings provided by their hosts kept them warm and energised for the chilly task. 🌳 Jamie’s Farm, which has six farms around the country, helps disadvantaged young people to thrive in education, at home and in the community – a cause we are proud to regularly support through our paid volunteer day initiative.
