About us

At Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust patient care is at the heart of everything we do. We serve around 600,000 people and run three hospitals - Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester – as well as community services and specialist services for which we are recognised nationally and internationally. We also provide care at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice in Andover and outpatient services in Alton, Bordon and Romsey. Below is some great information about what we do at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: • In the NHS Staff Survey, our own staff recommended us as good places to work and be treated. • We hold an annual Director of Nursing Awards and monthly WOW awards for staff. • Our staff are encouraged to innovate and improve patient care – we are active in research and development. • We have some of the lowest infection rates in England. • Patients rate us better than average on privacy, respect and dignity and also praise the cleanliness of our hospitals. • Our stroke service is recognised as one of the best performing in the UK. • We are one of only two centres in the UK treating the rare abdominal cancer pseudomyxoma peritonei and we are leaders in the field of liver and colorectal cancers. • We are pioneering intraoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer. • Construction of the new Orthopaedic Outpatients Department at Royal Hampshire County Hospital has reached a major milestone! 🏗️ Set to open in Autumn 2025, the facility will reduce wait times and improve care for patients needing procedures like hip and knee replacements. The Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre will also deliver 2,400 more procedures annually. A big thank you to Steve Erskine for applying the final concrete element and to Integrated Health Projects for their generous £3,000 donation to support our Paediatric Play Team. 🎁 👉 Read more here: https://ow.ly/Hmq650UvTvk

  • We are stepping down from critical incident status today (Wednesday 18 December). Our hospitals remain incredibly busy providing care to a high number of people. We remain at our highest alert status outside of a full incident response. Please continue to help us by: • supporting loved ones to return home from hospital - if a friend or loved one is ready for discharge, please help by collecting them at the earliest opportunity. • only attending our emergency departments if you have a life-threatening injury or illness. • using NHS 111 online (111.nhs.uk) or visiting your local pharmacy for non-urgent/emergency advice. Thank you for your continued support during this time and to our staff for their ongoing dedication to our patients.

  • We remain in a critical incident which is extremely serious. Please help us by choosing the right healthcare service for your needs. This will ensure you’re treated in the right place, first time. Use 111.nhs.uk if you're not sure where to go or need more advice. Help us keep our emergency departments free for those who need our care most. Only use 999 in an emergency - when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk. Thank you for your support during this time, and to our staff for their ongoing hard work. For more information: https://ow.ly/POfT50UrSG1

  • Due to sustained pressures at our Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals, we have declared a critical incident. This decision has not been taken lightly; however, beds across both hospitals are full and attendance at our emergency departments is extremely high. We need every possible space to treat patients with life threatening conditions and injuries. Attending our emergency departments for non-life-threatening conditions will mean an extremely long wait. If you need medical assistance, please visit 111.nhs.uk, speak to your GP, visit your local pharmacy, or an urgent treatment centre (UTC) near you. Please help us protect care for those who need it most: - Only attend the emergency department for a life-threatening illness or injury. - If a friend or loved one is ready for discharge, please help by collecting them at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for your continued support. For more information: https://ow.ly/POfT50UrSG1

  • A very proud moment for the Hampshire Hospitals' Research team, as Professor John Ramage, deputy research director, has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the UK and Ireland Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (UKINETS). Speaking about his award, Professor Ramage says: “I feel very honoured to have been presented with this recognition; it represents a great deal of hard work over many decades from people in the HHFT NET team as well as the Hampshire Hospitals’ research team. “Focussed, quality research is fundamental to securing the progress in diagnosis and treatment that will ultimately improve patient outcomes.” Neuroendocrine tumour is an umbrella term for a group of relatively uncommon cancers. Hampshire Hospitals' chief medical officer, Ruth Williamson, says: "The Hampshire Hospitals’ research team plays a vital role in ensuring we contribute to the future of healthcare and we are lucky to have experts of the calibre of Professor Ramage as part of its leadership.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/4gvGh65
