This the skill that I believe is the MOST important - regardless of your industry is the skill that I learnt at 16 years old on the phones! I worked at a call centre for years in Manchester - I also worked at a call centre at 16 years ago - which many would write off as a ‘pointless’ job, yet this job taught me the most important skill of all… The art of selling. & it’s why I believe there’s no such thing as a pointless job, they all give you something transferable. The secret to transforming it lies in these key strategies... Operating a successful 360-degree feedback exercise can unlock incredible growth, but it requires careful planning. If you want to do your own 360 feedback, here are some quick tips: 1️⃣ . Be Clear on the Purpose: Define whether the exercise is for development or assessment. Communicate this to everyone involved to avoid misunderstandings. 2️⃣ . Plan Thoroughly: Create a detailed project plan with clear timelines. If using external suppliers, leverage their expertise. 3️⃣ . Select the Right Tool: Choose a feedback tool tailored to your organisation's values. Generic tools lead to generic insights. 4️⃣ . Handle Feedback with Integrity: Ensure feedback is delivered impartially and focuses on strengths as well as areas for growth. 5️⃣ . Allow Time for Reflection: Encourage recipients to absorb feedback and seek clarification where needed. Don't rush into action plans. 6️⃣ . Continuous Improvement: Treat it as an ongoing process. 📌 This is what REALLY stood out to us yesterday at The Business Show 🤔 Yesterday, our Directors and Coaches attended 50th edition of The Business Show at Excel London with high hopes of connecting with SMEs looking to scale. The event was advertised as being perfect for small to medium-sized enterprises, but it was clear to us that the crowd leaned more toward micro-businesses and early-stage startups than established businesses with £500,000+ revenue and teams of 50-250 employees. One thing that really stood out? The disparity between expectations and reality. We were surprised to see several stands—presumably paid for at a premium—left empty, as if the companies couldn’t be bothered to show up. And while there were some larger, reputable brands like Dell Technologies, Currys Business, Meeting, Event & Travel Planning with Hilton, and Barclaycard Payments showcasing their offerings, it was the smaller exhibitors' presence (or lack thereof) that caught our attention. Here's why.... Inevitably, at these networking events, everyone is there to sell something. But one observation we couldn't ignore was the amount of exhibitors who seemed more interested in eating lunch on their stands or scrolling through their phones than engaging with potential clients. In an environment designed to encourage connections, this lack of enthusiasm was both surprising and disappointing. This brings us to a key takeaway: Selling is more than just being present. It’s about actively engaging, communicating, and making the most of these rare opportunities to connect with your ideal clients. Too often, it seemed like company representatives were physically there but mentally checked out, resulting in visitors not wanting to approach them. Whether you’re a micro-business or an enterprise, we’re all there for the same reason: to grow, connect, and ultimately sell our products and services.
