HIX x Historic Productions: A Sense of Place // Discover the storied past of the Business Design Centre In developing the concept for this year's signature HIX installation – our biggest and most ambitious yet – we partnered with heritage consultants Historic Productions to commission a deep-dive report on the Business Design Centre and surrounding area. Formerly the Royal Agricultural Hall, our home venue boasts a colourful past hosting everything from royal engagements and military dances to cattle auctions and cabaret. As a cultural and commercial nexus for both locals and travellers on their way to the city, the BDC holds a unique place in the story of London through the ages. Using this report as a foundation, four leading design studios in 3Stories, 4 Corners Design, Atellior and Purcell have worked to envision what this iconic building might look like as a hotel experience, creating four distinct concepts that highlight the power of hotel design to connect people with places. Displayed as a multimedia gallery within a dedicated space created by set builders Cloud & Horse Production Ltd, the results are a true celebration of hospitality design and the unique connections that exist between a hotel and the area it serves.
