As we wrap up the year 2024, I find myself reflecting on the key highlights that made this year unforgettable. One of such moments was attending, and having the honor of speaking and moderating a key panel at Moonshot by TechCabal 2024 — one of the biggest tech conferences in Africa, held in the vibrant city of Lagos. Moonshot was really really good! The energy, innovation, and collaboration at the event were truly remarkable. From thought-provoking sessions to connecting with brilliant minds shaping the future of technology, every moment was inspiring. Moderating a panel allowed me to engage in meaningful discussions while learning from other incredible speakers, making the experience even more rewarding. It’s inspiring to see how innovators and stakeholders across the continent keep coming together to tackle challenges and create impactful solutions for the future. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing organizers and the entire TechCabal team who worked tirelessly to make this event a success. I also want to specially thank Olanrewaju Odunowo (CPSP) and Tomiwa Aladekomo for their leadership and their kind partnership, and my team HoaQ for all the support. Looking forward to the next one!

FALSE: you have to be a high net worth individual to be an angel investor. As we close out the year, we look back with pride that our small checks (averaging $3,000 per investor) have added up to $1,150,000 invested into 30 great startups. This has helped leverage over $15,000,000 in additional funding for these companies. This is the POWER OF SMALL CHECKS FROM LOCAL INVESTORS. Let's do more of it in 2025! ABAN, UK-Kenya Tech Hub, Serengeti Angels, ViKtoria Ventures, Lokal Capital, Dazzle Angels, Mo Angels, African Angel Academy, Dutch Good Growth Fund (DGGF), Orange Corners, Jozi Angels, HoaQ, ACASIA GROUP, Lagos Angel Network, VC4A, Rising Tide Africa, Dakar Network Angels (DNA)

Audrey Djiya and Peter Nsaka always wanted to be founders. Djiya and Nsaka decided to team up and launch Zimi, a company that seeks to simplify cross-border commerce for merchants selling cross-border. Launched earlier this year, the company announced on Monday the raise of a $2 million seed round led by Fearless Fund with participation from Y Combinator and other funds and advisors. The problem they are trying to solve is a big one: brands shipping internationally face high shipping costs, long delivery times, and often rely on expensive distributors. Read more below!

Our partner, Nubi Kay' will be speaking at this event in the new year. Worth attending

Two years ago, I started Deverse Labs with one goal: To support visionary founders building real-life use-case projects on the Blockchain. We began on the Lisk Blockchain, but after a lot of back and forth, I made a bold decision—to support founders building on any Blockchain. That single choice came at a cost. I lost my entire team. Everyone I brought together to build this vision walked away. For the past two years, I built Deverse Labs as a one-man venture: ✨Mentored 22 startup founders ✨Directly invested in 9 startups ✨Raised over $500,000 in grants, angel investments, tech credits, and other support—all by myself. It was hard, but it was worth it. I learned that true founders don't just stop at setbacks—they keep building. But I wanted to do more. Not just for blockchain founders, but for any founder with a dream to solve real problems. I met Ajibola Esho, a visionary like me who believes founders need more than just ideas—they need the right support to thrive. Together, we are building #Startupbank, a systematic incubator under Deverse Labs. What is Startupbank? A platform to: 📍Mentor founders and prepare them to meet investors 📍Provide tools, resources, and expert guidance to scale their businesses 📍Give startups access to priority deal rooms where investors are ready to listen. For our first cohort, we've partnered with Y Combinator backed companies like Paystack Termii Group, and others to provide startups with tools to grow. We've also brought in mentors and investors, including Ken Alabi, Ph.D M.CAE from ToroNet to support founders, give feedback, and offer angel investments during Demo Day. If you are a founder ready to scale your business, this is for you. 📢 Applications are now open for the first Startupbank cohort. 🚀 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/dR782r8S Let’s build the next generation of successful startups—together.
